I guess the PC police would be in a full froth if they ever played with my golf group.

Some common comments when we hit a putt short:

"Don't hit it with your purse next time"

"Nice putt Alice"

"Does Mr. (insert last name) play golf"

I'm sure when my wife plays with her group there are similar remarks but referenced at men.

Thankfully for me there are enough Neanderthal men around for me to socialize with.

Crap I think I just offended Neanderthal men !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sorry but I don't understand why people think pc is a bad thing. Couldn't Bishop have made his point without offending half the population? What if he used a racial or ethnic slur in refering to Poulter?. I may be in the minority, but I don't get why people think it is ok to offend a group of people. There would have been nothing wrong with his statement if he had left off the name calling.

Actually, if you think about it, he wasn't making fun of te little girls he was doing the opposite. Bringing them up by comparing them to a million dollar athlete compared to their stereotypical state, of nothing

The reason people are not pc is because they are not part of the minority group being discriminated against. They are the first to bitch when you start dogging religion too. So it isn't that hard to figure out.

Can't speak for anybody else but I was fine with what @jbishop had to say until I got to this:

I would be horrified if any of the female members of my friends and family heard that crap.

:bugout: Really? "Horrified"? Good grief man. Surely they have thicker skin than that.

When I coached my daughter's softball teams I heard the girls say it to each other more than I ever heard guys say it. And those girls could really play and could have given most boy's teams a run for their money (in fast pitch softball, not baseball).

"Nice putt Alice"

It's "Alliss." After Peter. It's not "Alice."

I don't think it's "political correctness gone mad' to hold some to appropriate standards. However the degree of sexism in the language, it was still sexist language, and that is not okay for anyone, let alone the president of the freaking PGA.

Sexism isn't okay, ever. I would be horrified if any of the female members of my friends and family heard that crap. My nieces don't need to grow up thinking that being a 'lil girl' is slang for being weak. It's 100% unacceptable.

I would be horrified if my daughters would ever let such a silly thing affect them in the slightest.  My daughters were taught to be strong resourceful women who don't faint in horror at anything they hear.

Yeah, I didn't check the spell checker.

The spell checker doesn't help when you spell the wrong word correctly. ;-)

I do not believe anyone was actually offended.  THAT is the real problem with PC,   It creates professional offense-takers.

The reason people are not pc is because they are not part of the minority group being discriminated against. They are the first to bitch when you start dogging religion too. So it isn't that hard to figure out.

I find the opposite.  In my experience it is the PC people who complain about every perceived discrimination but feel free to libel and slander religions and their adherents.

Again there is a difference between how you talk when you hang out with your buddies and when you're the President of the PGA and post things on social media.

The punishment, being erased from the history books, is way too harsh. The comment was dumb and commenting in the first place was dumb but the board took it too far. It's pretty clear Bishop made some enemies and some people are taking advantage of the situation.

Actually, if you think about it, he wasn't making fun of te little girls he was doing the opposite. Bringing them up by comparing them to a million dollar athlete compared to their stereotypical state, of nothing

Uh no, Bishop certainly wasn't trying to elevate the status of "little girls".

This is the flaw of bothering to use social media. Everybody involved looks like a pinhead, even those who complain about it. Everyone, at one time or another, talks like this, but NOT to millions of strangers........some of whom are PC insane, have axes to grind, or are basically trying to make something out of their blank lives by jumping on assassination bandwagons. Makes me yearn for saner times, instead of having to deal with a media, and websites living lives of "quiet desperation". Play golf.

I'm with you. If you're in the minority then so am I. The same people who feel that Bishop's comments were ok are likely the same people who think racism died in the 60s. Well guess what sexism and racism are both alive and well. It's time to put an end to both.

I am not sure the idea that it's ok to say things in my private foursome but not ok to say the same thing in public holds up anymore. (If it ever did) In this age of technology and social media the mic is always hot and the camera is always running. How many politicians or sports figures have been embarrassed when the actions they thought were in a private setting became public? Really, is it a bad thing? Is being an actor in public the best way to live?

Surely PC is marginal in this case?

The severity of the sanction (being airbrushed from history - not the sacking) and the alacrity with which it was done (agreed in less than 24 hours and then rubber stamped at a quick meeting) has all the hallmarks of people settling scores and perhaps using PC as a flag of convenience.

I'm seriously struggling to believe that the board of the USPGA is awash with dedicated campaigning born again liberals. It's right that he should be held to a higher level of account. In fact I think its perverse that people seek to downplay this by projecting their own behaviour onto his as if the two are somehow compatiable. They aren't. There's also a clear business case that he's undermined, but one suspects that if he were a valued and popular President, a strongly conservative organisation like the PGA would have found a way of allowing him to serve out his time and at the very least chiselled his name onto the honours board.

PC gets a bad name really for being used as the excuse, but there's clearly a lot more to this then one comment about Poulter being a girl. Coming in the same week as the "Williams Brothers" remark, I think the USPGA have completely out shone the ITF

It does. You can say things among friends or whatever that you can't say in public, or which would be really stupid or insensitive to say in public.

In this age of technology and social media the mic is always hot and the camera is always running.

This isn't a case of that. He turned on the microphone and recorded himself, then sent it out to anyone who wanted to hear it, to stick with your "mic is always hot" idea. He wasn't "caught" saying something, he took the actions directly.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
