I finally get it! I now know what all the hype is about. I now know why so many owners of Mizuno golf irons are so proud. It's not because you can afford them! I was lucky enough to find a set on EBay that had only been been played one season. I literally bought them for half price and they were immaculate. I went from playing Ping G10s to buying a set of MP59s. Two reasons I purchased this set. I wanted to try a set of player's club to try and improve my game, and these clubs are absolutely gorgeous! It took a while but eventually I tied my best round. Another couple of months and I shot a new low round! Now, with more improvements to my swing, I have a realistic shot at shooting even par someday soon. I attribute this to my purchase of these clubs. They feel so good on flush shots and... so bad on mishits that it makes you make a better swing. Now, in saying all of this. It doesn't have to be Mizuno. It doesn't have to cost a fortune. When you find the clubs that change your game for the better, it's OK to be excited about them! Just don't call me a snob. I'm a ham-en-egger just like you... only my cubs are prettier!

No one calls Mizuno owners snobs.

And Mizuno irons are no more expensive than other premium OEM brands.

I own a set of Mizuno clubs. Very nice clubs they are. No one has ever called me a snob when I use them. Fact is I don't use them that much because my Tour Edge set matches up better to my swing.

Of course my Mizunos were a raffle win for me, so I only paid $5 for them.

Now I have met some snobs on the golf course, but I'm pretty sure they were not that way because of their clubs of choice.

Same here, I think OP is projecting his own opinions of Mizuno onto others.  Most guys that belong to my club could afford 1000 sets of Mizuno's if they wanted to buy them, they play what works best for them.  They also pay zero attention to what clubs other people play.

I think it's an industry legend propagated by other golf sites with greater focus on equipment.  The posters on these sites portray Mizuno, Titleist and Miura as the holy grail of golf clubs where one must be "worthy" to swing the forged heads crafted by the hands of master samurai sword makers and once owned, will become the envy of their peers.

Yep. Most of them I know were snobs whether they were playing golf or not. ;-)

I had no idea that Mizuno was the club of choice for snobs. I'll have to start watching for that. LOL

Honestly for some reason I never even pay any attention to which clubs even my closest friends are using. Right now I know what my son plays but don't have any idea about any of the other guys in our regular groups. Sometimes one of them will show me a club or ask me to hit it but a week later I have forgotten which brand it was.

Most of them seem to change clubs quite a bit anyway and there's no need for me to waste valuable brain cells keeping track of what they play with.

Don't know where you got the Mizuno = snob idea. They make some excellent clubs, especially irons. If I played Mizuno, I'd probably go with JPX825 or JPX825 Pro with NS Pro 8950GH shafts.

This sounds like the false drama around phantom people who supposedly hate push-cart users. In golfdom, there's a few people with low self-esteem that will always find a reason to badmouth others, be it for pull carts or Muzuno irons.

I dont think owning any one brand of clubs makes you a snob....

But since i work for Fedex and i drop off packages at peoples houses all the time, and alot of them have golf clubs, i tend to analyze them just from their clubs... lol

While i am not going to bash someone for playing X clubs, i do love my Titleist irons...  and rave about them all the time..   I've had it while out playing with people who dont know me and they see my clubs, and instantly they are like ut ohhhh he must be good...  and i tell them right away i am nothing special.. i just like my clubs..

Unique story here about "snobs" on a course. Myself, and one of my buddies I sometimes still golf with were paired up with couple of seasoned golf veterans. This was about 15 years ago. My buddy is a pretty quiet guy, who does not talk very much. After about 12 holes, one of the seasoned veterans asked me what was wrong with my friend. He thought maybe he was too good to talk to the rest of us. He told me he thought my friend was a bit on the "snobbish"  side. I told the seasoned veteran it would be a waste of time for my partner to try and communicate with us since none of us knew sign language. That my friend was deaf-mute due to a previous war injury. The conversation continued, and I was asked how does he communicate with others. When I told the guy that my friend, in addition to signing, could also read lips, used a note pad, and probably knew what we were talking about right now, his game immediately went south.

I hate snobism in golf - I grew up in Scotland where just about every boy plays golf (ok: soccer takes first place), and where the unemployed play golf because they have the time and public courses are so cheap.

I now live, work and play golf in Germany and I played one time with a couple where the guy looked at my shoes and asked if they were real golf shoes or not (with obvious disdain). When I showed him the soles and he saw that they were "Ecco" brand golf shoes (a high-level brand in Europe - I got them cheap in a sale), I palpably went a up a few notches in his esteem, so much so that he "confided" in me that he was thinking of changing his membership to a different club in the area, on account of all the "unsuitable" members who had recently joined and lowered the tone of the club.

It took me a lot of effort and restraint to finish the round with this guy. The whole concept of handicaps is to be a "leveller" - to enable people of all ability to play and compete with each other. I love the game and love sharing that feeling with anyone who feels the same way - no matter what car he drives, what clubs he plays or what his job is/was.

Ironically, my wife, son and I have now also made the transition to the very same club that guy was thinking of switching to, but only because we can get there in ten minutes from our home, and that can make the difference between playing of a summer evening and not bothering. In spite of the reputation of that club for being the most "exclusive" in the area, we have found spome friends there who - entirely irrespective of their bank balance - are simply good, open people to be around.

Golf is great because of the spirit of the game, the etiquette, the essence of which - to my mind - is being considerate of others. For me there is no place for snobism or "one-upmanship".

I don't think mizuno or it's players has that rep. They have one of the best reputations in the industry in my opinion (at least with regards to their irons).

I don't think it snobbery (is that a word?). I think there are people who really like Mizuno. There are people who really like Titleist etc. Personally, I don't like Mizuno. I admit my sample is small, but all of them have felt terrible. Usually to heavy. Maybe if I got a set fitted, I might become a snob. :-)

I liked the JPX 850 forged cavity backs that I tried out. Nice irons. Not as heavy as my current set and liked the feel.

    • Day 3 (11 Mar 26) - midweek round with friends.  Good session with an 83 (38 / 45).  Got some great up and down pars (6 of 9) with a total 27 putts.  Made for a relaxed round.
    • Day 206 3-11 Focused on wider backswing and reconnecting arm in downswing. Wasn't really happy with how swing was looking today. Wider backswing is very different for me. Went back to do a some longer pauses at the top. Hit a few foam balls.
    • This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score
    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage.
