I'm sort of torn about this, I agree that chimps are very intelligent, but granting them "personhood" is a rather interesting step. Maybe a bit extreme.

I'm sort of torn about this, I agree that chimps are very intelligent, but granting them "personhood" is a rather interesting step. Maybe a bit extreme.

I'll go along with this but I have to draw the line between apes and monkeys, 'cause damn, those tailed primates are mouth-watering!

Seriously, granting "personhood" is crazy and why so many of these organizations have little credibility. Their hearts are in the right place but they go too far. Having said that, even as a hunter I believe we can do a better job of treating animals ethically.

They already have dead people voting democrat, why not chimps?

Because even a chimp would be able to recognize bad policy (that was intended for both sides of the aisle).

Wow!   This thread may develop into a die hard republicans vs bleeding democrats fight thread.  Chuckle.

I watched the news on this last night and have not formed a definitive opinion yet (and likely never will on this topic).     But it got me thinking for a few minutes.  My random, wandering thoughts below ;-) .

  • The news mentioned dolphins & elephants as candidate as well.   That got me thinking ... where does it stop?  Some will insist some dog breeds belong to the elite group.   Others will try to include some parrots to the list, cats, etc.    If one to ask Indian people (not native Americans), they will insist on cows for sure, and other animals different part of Indian culture worship/believe to be close to humans.
  • What are the legal, moral implications?   Too many to even delve into.
  • Let's say I believe in reincarnation.   If  I am born into an animal body in my next life, I'd like myself to be well treated.  Perhaps, I should support this in case I am reincarnated in a chimp's body.

Good point, that I don't think they have thought about yet.. Technically they are all being held against their will.. How would you feel if it was you being domesticated? Wouldn't you want your freedom? I say let all the cars and dogs and parrots go asap and just see what happens.. We can avoid all the court fees too, think how much we can save?

Well, more of my wandering thought here ... if cars can drive by itself (better than DUI drivers), they definitely belong to be freed.   All AI beings should be freed.   Free the robots. :-)

Yes.. The cars will eventually be able to think for them selves (think kit) and thus deserve to be free.. But yeah unfortunately it was a typo, or was it?

      Day 204 (22 Nov 24) - Weekly men’s group round today.  Temps in the upper 40’s, WNW winds 5-15mph - was the old man in the foursome (next youngest is my junior by 10yrs) - held my own against them.  Iron play getting more consistent -seeing predictable ball flights and distances. While the consistency coming around still had sone solid negatives as I had two dbls and one triple. On the plus side - eight pars and one birdie.

      Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
