Hey folks! Right now I'm in the market for a new pair of golf shoes. Right now I have the FootJoy Contour series that are going into their third year of play, and they're just not really cutting it. I remember when I bought them, they were a heck of a lot more comfortable than my FootJoy Lites I had before them. Maybe just age is getting to them, but they're still in great condition. Regardless, my feet are killing me. As of right now, price isn't really the deciding factor...I have yet to find a golf shoe that is actually comfortable to wear. There isn't a place anywhere nearby where I can try any on, so I was looking to just order something off of Zappos.

There are a few models I have in mind:

Ecco Biom Hybrid 2

Ecco Biom G 2

Puma BioDrive

Puma TitanTour

FootJoy HyperFlex

FootJoy DNA

I'm also not really sure if the "hybrid" style shoes would be generally considered more comfortable than the traditional spike ones. I just want to get as much feedback from this great community of avid golfers, and I'd trust this forum over reading reviews on sites.

If you have any of the models I am considering, I'd love to hear from you. If you have any shoes you'd like to mention that aren't on my list, obviously feel free to shout it out. And like I said, not looking at price as the real deciding factor. I just want to get the right pair of shoes. I appreciate all the feedback!

Footjoy Greenjoys guy, very basic. But I found out about True Linkswear golf shoes from this site. The zero heel drop models are basically waterproof leather slippers with better traction. Very comfortable and great for feeling the slope of the greens with your feet.

You know, I keep getting their magazine, and I don't know why I never thought to look at their shoes! I'll look into True Linkswear

Sixthed for Trues.  I was one of the members that reviewed the Adidas Adipower that @meenman linked, and they're great, but they don't hold a candle to Trues in the comfort category.  Nothing I've worn - golf shoe or otherwise - with the possible exception of fleece slippers I might get in my Christmas stocking, have come anywhere close to the comfort of the Trues.

Seventhed for Trues.

I like them so much, I wear mine every day at the office.

Easily the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn.

Does that affect your ability to use them as golf shoes? I can't imagine any other shoes I own being wearable off-course without affecting their desired use on-course.

I know you weren't asking me, but ... nope.  There really isn't much to the bottom of them.  Just some little rubber nubbies.  I wear a pair to work on days I'm going to the range at lunch (unless I forget like I did yesterday and today) so I don't waste any time putting on shoes in the parking lot.  There is no noticeable difference between the bottom of that pair and the bottoms of the other pairs I own that I can't wear to work.

for me there are three types of golf shoes.

the classic hard leather or similar with huge spikes (not confortable at all, to firm yet great for wet condition). high price.

the basketball looking shoes with huge heals and spikes (not great, fells like the foot is cooking). mid to high price if technical

the sneakers (great confort, not at all adapted to wet conditions). very low price if not too trendy.

I play adidas samba shoes since a year (sort of stan smith style sneakers) they have little tiny spikes. hold well on dry firm short cut turf.

Great confort compared to leather golf shoes with huge spikes and all that.

So I can't go back to classic shoes unless it's raining.

so i got a new pairs of addidas Idunowhat adicros. molded spikes. haven't tried yet.

I made two changes that really have helped my feet. I got some Adicross Gripmores, and they are very comfortable. Also, I have quit carrying my bag, and am using a three wheeler. Taking the weight of the bag off my shoulders has really reduced the stress on my feet. I can't put in a good word for Trues, because I can't find them. I am reluctant to order shoes I can't try on despite True's return policy. I hope they can improve their distribution. The closest golf shop that stocks them is over an hour away, and it is not on the way to any place I go.

How often do you have to replace them? With traditional shoes, I need to replace the spikes every now and then. Can that even be done with Trues? Is it needed? I might end up buying a pair before too long if it's that easy and they last that long. That sounds even easier than my current strategy of using sandals and keeping socks in the shoe bags.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
