Honestly I don't think this is a good pairing for Jordan.

You could be right, but he looked really good here last year in the first couple rounds.

I picked Jordan.

I voted McIlroy.

No good reason.

I voted for Rory, but… I didn't invest a lot of thought. Rory tends to play well when on form. He just won.

I'm going with Spieth because Rory struggled a bit with the driver last week and Sawgrass isn't as forgiving off the tee as Harding.

I voted Rory. He's seem to be getting better and better with each round. Jordan looks to be regressing a bit from his Masters outlier performance.

No personal preference.   I voted for Rory b/c he just won a tournament and may carry that to the tournament.

It's a close call, and should be a classic match-up.......cue the kiss of death and both miss the cut! Rory to come out on top, because as others have said, when he's on it, nobody comes close to competing with him.

Rory, because he has made a lot more birdies here last couple of years at Sawgrass and he is in form.

I voted Rory because I'm a McIlroy homer. :-P On any given day it's a toss up between them, but if they are both bringing their A game Rory comes out on top. Speith's A game is spectacular, but Rory's A game is otherworldly.

IMO - this is true - but Speith's regular game is closer to his A game at all times

tough pick

I hope playing together motivates them both to whatever their next level is.  I wouldn't be surprised to see them both just leave the rest of the field in the dust.

Only one other golfer has an A game as good as Rory's A game - and he hasn't shown it for years.

Agree 100% about the gap between Speith's regular game and A game being much tighter. Very consistent player and that'll serve him well throughout his career.

Rory wins the pic battle but Jordan will beat him on the course.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
