So much for the top half.

Still time tomorrow though. I mean, if Jason freaking Bohn can shoot 61 out there, certainly Tiger could do the same...

...right?

I think this week has been very encouraging. He's not back, of course, not to an acceptable level of play to win tournaments but it's a hell of a lot better than shooting in the 80s. If makes even a few of those near-misses, we're talking about a possible victory instead of a lowish finish.

Good things are ahead, I think.

You can't simultaneously say Tiger needs to play more and say he can't hit driver when it's not going well. He needs the practice with the driver if he's ever going to hit it well.

Absolutely. Couldn't agree more.

He still has a long way to go to the form he had even two years ago. But he's at least close to contending in tournaments on a more regular basis. Still a lot of work to do.

Posts like this seem to ignore the history of PGA Tour level golf. How many majors have been won by "nobodies"? How about guys who missed the cut the prior start? Heck even McIlroy was playing like crap until he wasn't last year, no? Tiger's always been way more consistent than Phil or Rory of course so I'm not saying it's without any merit. But… I've been "close" and had HORRIBLE rounds followed by great ones where what I've been working toward clicks. Let's just see what happens?

Scoring a 71 on Greenbrier is like scoring  80+ at a hard major course, right?

No, I don't think so.

Let's just see what happens?

Lately, there have been no "nobodies" winning majors. The last 10 or so majors are being won by the most elite players. The last 4 majors have gone to the two best players on the planet. But I see what you're saying. While I still think he's still far off to returning to being on top more consistently, that doesn't mean he can't fix it by the time the Open comes around in two weeks. Do I think it will happen? No. Would I like to see it happen? Of course. If you have Rory, Tiger and Spieth in the mix at St. Andrew's, what better story line could you ask for?

When Bohn shoots a 61, it sure seems so.........

Bohn is a PGA tour level player, as evidenced by him being in a tour event. Nobody is saying that this is Ben Hogsn's Oakmont but to say a 71 here is an 80s score anywhere else isnt realistic I don't think. Is Chambers Bay, for example, really ten strokes tougher than this course?

Besides Bohn and Lingmerth shooting -9 and -6, the rest shot -4 and higher. It's not like the leaderboard was crowded by sub 65's.

Define how many a FEW of those misses are? Talking about a possible victory? LOL

If he makes five of those makeable birdie putts over the last few three days he's two shots off the lead. I know fits your narrative to act as if my statement was unreasonable, but if you actually tried to have an objective opinion about this you'd see I'm not incorrect. Tiger missed at least three birdie puts under ten feet yesterday, two of which were lipouts and one of which was a dead block from 5 feet. But by all means, continue to act like someone whose hit 43/54 greens couldn't have potentially made some noise if the putter was hotter.

I'm sure there are a lot of players who would like to have 5 shots to do over again over the last few 3 days. Just think if the leaders could have 5 missed opportunities back. That puts tiger in even a better position to win does it not? Just trying to be objective and you will see that I'm not incorrect.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
