Does it bug anyone else that the ESPN announcer (I think it's Tirico) doesn't know how to pronounce Jiménez?

Not really (but I haven't heard it yet).

Did notice a couple of other things though:  He pronounces Oosthuizen different than I've ever heard it.  He says Oost-HIGH-zen, whereas I've always heard it as Oost-HAY-zen.  (The emphasis is mine to show the differences, not the inflection - everybody puts the emphasis on the first syllable)

And the other thing I've noticed is at leas twice now, once yesterday and once this morning, Paul Azinger decided to call the swale next to the 18th green the Swilcan Burn instead of the Valley of Sin.  I know little of this course, but I certainly know that ain't right. ;)

On another note - I'm really enjoying a lot of the big, overhead, wide angle shots we're being given this year.  Gives you a new perspective on things.  17, for example.  From TV at ground level, it doesn't look quite as hard coming into the green as it does when the camera goes up.

I think it's just hi-men-ez, I don't think the Z is pronounced th when it's at the end of a word. But idk, maybe my Spanish teacher is wrong, she's kind of a dumbass

He's from Barcelona, right?  It's not really Spanish over there, I think, it's Catalan or something.  A whole different animal.

He's from Málaga, Andalusia.

There’s a nice story from Christopher Clarey in the New York Times on the New Course at St. Andrews, an Old Tom Morris original. Though it's used this week for other purposes, the New has its admirers. If nothing else for giving us The Old Course name that has become iconic.

This was fun:

“It’s probably the oldest new course,” said George Wilkinson, a starter on the New Course. “Maybe they could market it that way.”

Said Moir: “Up until the New Course was built, the Old Course was just known as the Links. It was only when they built the New Course that they said, ‘We’ll call it the Old.’ They had a lot of imagination in those days.”

The New was designed by Tom Morris, who, despite the assignment, was known as Old Tom Morris to distinguish him from his son, who was known as Young Tom. (New Tom apparently was not an option.)

Has anyone hit that building on 17?

I missed it both times I played.

They were telling a story earlier yesterday that Ian Poulter was staying there last time the Open was at St Andrews and found a ball on his porch.  Somehow figured out the owner and returned the ball with a laugh and a good story.  I think it was Geoff Ogilvy but I might be remembering wrong.

No. In Spanish (as in Spain) the J is pronounced as a G. Not the American G though, hard to explain. Def. not a H as Americans say it. edit: here an example of Juan

Faldo is more at a photo shoot than playing a golf tournament.

    • Day 48. Got out at lunch to the range to hit some driver shots. Haven’t had much practice there. Focused on setup suggested by @iacas and found some very playable results. I did try to hit a couple of bunker shots after that with much less success 🙃
    • Got a rare birdie on #18 Par 5.  Drive was good and left me in range of the green.  I was @ 210 from the center and needed @ 180 to clear a hazard area.  Green had bunkers lest, right and on back. had been struggling and most shots were short so I took the 225 club figuring back of green hit well. i did hit it well, @ 229 per SS and dead on—kind at the pin.  Ended up @ 1 foot off the back in short rough and lucky for me it was a back pin placement.  Chipped about 15 feet leaving a 3 feet putt for par which I sunk.
    • Yea, so to clarify for me. I do not feel the clubface much in the swing. I feel the weight of the club. I can feel if I hit the club off the heel or toe. When I try to feel if the clubface is open or closed in the swing, I feel it more with my hands, and less of the clubhead. I would classify majority of my swings as not feeling like the clubface does much of all. It feels like I hold the clubface open. In the finish, it doesn't feel like my left hand faces the ground. It feels more like it faces the sky. I will try to be more aware of this, but it was just the sensation I got when I was making what felt like good swings. For the most part, I was hitting slight draws or slight pushes.  On this golf trip, I had to hit a low 8 iron around a tree to the green. I made an alignment adjustment, and actively try to roll my hands a bit more to get it to sling around the corner. I do have a habit of not adjusting how the clubface comes through impact, and I can still hit the ball straight-ish even moving the ball way back in my stance and trying to swing out more.  Yea, my feels are more hands and arms, less actually feeling the clubface.
