Putting too much spin on the ball is not what I call "unlucky." He did that. You could say he was lucky to stay on the green short of that big false edge.

Yeah, I admit I was stretching the definition of unlucky there. Still, though, he hasn't been far away from being at -16, even with that four putt.

you'd be wrong. Keep the pin in. Ball goes in more often.

Not in my case. I have been denied by the stick more than benefited.

Your perception is off. The flagstick can only help you unless it's leaning a ton.

This has been like the Boston Marathon, watching the big pack of runners drop off the pace one by one. Leishman is the last one hanging on after Heartbreak Hill, but he has to make sure he doesn't die in the last mile.

It's not perception. It is my experience.

In anyone's case, the flagstick only helps.

I think the number is going to be -16 to win outright. -15 might make it into a playoff. We're coming up on the finishing stretch, and 15, 16, and 17 are not yielding any birdies.

I don't think it would have made a difference. There was a lot of pace on that shot. I think the flagstick actually saved him from a bogey.

He got both lucky and unlucky with that shot. Probably an inch one direction, it goes in. An inch the other direction, and he's looking at a 10 foot putt for par.

No… It's your perception of your experience.

It's not helping Speith...

If it touched the flag stick, it did help - it slowed the ball down. That ball was not going in with the flag out either.

It's just physics.

Oh man, Zach goes to -15, and Leishman makes a 10 footer to stay at -16. Leishman has 3 holes left, I think. A lot of danger left for him, but fewer places to make mistakes than others.

I don't complain much about the rules of golf, but I hate the rule about the ball moving after addressing the ball. It basically penalizes the golfer for something that might have actually not have happened. In all other rules it usually gives the golfer the benefit of the doubt. The line, "The player is deemed to have moved the ball", is just BS to me. If I was putting, and if I didn't feel the the club hit the ball I am taking the stance I am 100% certain I didn't cause it to move.
