Signed up a couple teams on Draftking. Just went to draft and noticed they are pricing players closer and closer in value each week. This is creating a LUCK points total for players. On Sunday, it is the 6 players with the highest total that wins. If every players is priced to close then no skill is involved with picking the proper 6 players. I am sure they have a rep that visits this site since it is the #1 golf forum.

The scoring on this group of players should be from 19K down to 4K. The closer they price the players, the more LUCK is involved and skill is eliminated. When skill of picking players is removed, you lose the players who care about playing, and get a group of 2 types. The "I will take a shot group" and "I will play 300 teams group"

I am still ahead overall and feel skill has won me points. I can also seen the changes coming each week.  It isn't a good thing when someone wins because they picked a guy that had 3 eagles, and a whole in one, yet finished 25th.

I hope they catch on before they ruin it for players...

ugh...

This sentiment is so trite and ignorant its annoying to keep see popping up.

Yup.

He's trending in the right direction. Three fairly solid rounds in one tournament. 68, 66, 68

Maybe one from last year ...

Woods didn't qualify. Or am I missing a joke here? ;)

Does that mean we'll finally get a thread in the Tour Talk section that isn't 75% about him?

It would be nice, but alas, I'm afraid not. They'll be 42% snide comments about how he is not there. 36% comments countering those comments. One guy will be restricted from the thread because he can't help acting like a 12 year old. :-)

But thanks for trying!

Thanks.  Nice that there are so few people it's really easy to get good shots.  Only downside to Wednesday and taking the camera is you don't know who or when anybody will be on the course and WHERE.  Just have to kind of follow the crowds to find the easily recognizable players.

We'll see what we come up with and I'll post some on Thursday or Friday this week.

That first round could have been easily much lower if it wasn't for the first few holes. He was playing really well.

I was looking forward to seeing him play this week. He absolutely loves Firestone South. I thought this might be the tournament to really give him a good chance at winning again, even with the strength of the field.

who will avgerage longer drives on the day

I'd go with DJ since he hits it straighter and the fairways there are pretty narrow and most of the holes are straight, as I recall.

That first group, man. Three super bombers and Rickie, who is close to a 300 average himself. That's going to be fun to watch.

What are your opinions about the fact that at the WGCs there's not cut after two days? Is that a good thing since the field isn't that big?

Woods should play the Barracuda Championship if he's serious about making the Fed Ex Cup Playoffs. Given his track record at Whistling Straits, I wouldn't expect much out of him at the PGA this year, especially given the high rough off the fairways.

Yeah I think its gonna be Chambers Bay all over for him.

Dave,

What other good pics did you get. That one of Rory last year was great. Would love to see other ones.

This tournament has virtually always the cream of the crop winner. I like Justin Rose. He was lurking last week at Quicken Loans. Could see Jason Day winning as well. Long is best at Firestone. Who knows though; tons of options. Should be a fun week.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
