Calling Tiger "Eldrick" is fair enough, as long as you also call Bubba "Gerry" or Boo "Thomas".

Sure, and Boo Weekley "Thomas" which is what I've done as well when talking to friends.  Sure, I have to explain to them who I'm talking about at times, but it's all good.

Do all you call Fred Couples "Boom Boom" or Sergio Garcia "El Nino"... probably not, because these nicknames aren't as standardized.

Has a leaderboard ever read as Boom Boom Couples or El Nino Garcia?

Tiger is his name for all intents and purposes.

In other news, Kaymer came to Wyndham hoping to qualify for the playoffs, but did not succeed and consequently lost his tour card for the 15-16 season because he didn't meet the requirement of 15 events played.

Isn't this a bit of a ridiculous technicality? He has an exemption until 2019 for winning the U.S. Open last year, and he earned more than enough last year to break the top 125 on the money list. Does it really matter that he only entered 13 events?

In my UnderArmour Links stand bag...

Woods: SasQuatch 17° 4-Wood (stiff graphite shaft)
Hybrid: 4DX Ironwood 20° (stiff graphite shaft)Irons/Wedges: Apex Edge 3-PW, GW, SW (stiff shaft); Carnoustie 60° LWPutter: Rossa AGSI+ Corzina...

In all honesty, I exclusively refer to Freddie as Boom Boom...Sergio, I just don't even bother to talk about.

Agreed. It seems ridiculous for a guy who won the US Open and Players in the last 16 months to 'lose' his tour card for next year. Is this some new product of the FedEx system because I have never heard of this garbage before?

Yes...  it absolutely matters.

Because the PGA needs its star players to attend events.  If they didn't have this rule we wouldn't see nearly as many star players at the lesser events.  Which would hurt the game.

Wow that's shocking about Kaymer. I thought his Players win in '14 would give him a PGA exemption. That being said, he will still play in all 4 majors, all the WGC events and Players, so he'll still be playing in a lot of big tourneys on Tour.

And if he wins one event during a pga sanctioned event, he automatically makes it back on tour and the FEDEX cup.

Like I stated before, I feel like more of a fan knowing his real name, whereby a majority of people don't.  I can call him Tiger too.

I don't get mad when people call me by my real name, instead of a nickname which is what I used for most of my life.  The statement I've heard for me personally is that people grow out of nicknames too when they get older, so maybe that should apply to Tiger as well?  I know people refused to call Larry Jones "Chipper" as he got older.

Obviously Tiger has not outgrown the nickname.  It is one of the most recognized names in the sports world.  Not using it to make yourself feel like a friend of his is just weird.  My Father-in-law was nicknamed "Buddy" before he was 3 years old.  Now he's 2 weeks short of 92 and he's still "Bud".  89 years with essentially the same nickname.

Yeah it is actually kind of creepy.

How does saying "Eldrick looked great in red and black" demeaning to him and his real name?  Yeah, I said Fatrick afterwards in the same paragraph (and then said I probably shouldn't have), but I'm not a fan of Patrick Reed.

Ask anyone I talk to about golf, and I always use the name Eldrick, and they know I don't say it to demean him.  You people on here don't know me and are just rushing to judgements, based on how Eldrick has been used on this board.  Newsflash: this board isn't the say-all and end-all of golf.

Filed under conversations that didn't happen....

Tempting Tiger.

    • Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.
    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
