Callaway vs Titleist

Anything:

Best clubs

Golf balls

Bags

They'll both get you where you need to go. Unless one is paying for you to put their logo on their hat, play the one you like the look of more.

These thread can turn into "mine is bigger than yours" contests. Both Brands make fine clubs -- Callaway seems to have a broader lineup with which to segment the market while Titleist markets itself as "Player's Clubs" while also reaching out to higher cappers.

As to balls, Titleist is #1 although its market share, I predict, will lessen.

Bags - neither one makes its own. SM no longer makes Titleist bags, so who knows. Just buy a Sun Mountain bag with Titleist or Callaway colors.

One thing I will say in favor of Titleist balls is they seem to keep the same models whereas Callaway seems to keep changing them. I got sick of having to research what new ball to use because they kept discontinuing the one I was using.

Drivers: Callaway, I would say they are the Driver company on the market right now. Just the past few models have been really good.

Woods: Titliest, same as hybrids. Fantastic clubs.

Hybrids: Titliest, the 915 hybrid is a monster. I love this club. Easily used off the tee and ground.

Irons: Neither, Mizuno ;)

Wedges: Titliest, but Edel dominates them both ;)

Putters: Callaway because they own Odyssey. Though Edel beats them both ;)

Golf Balls: Titliest, though expensive their golf balls are more consistent in their quality over Callaway. Though I did like the Hex Chrome+ when it came out.

Woods -- Titleist makes them for a certain market - typically the low lofted are for better players or those who can launch them. They are not the easiest to launch, although the 915 may be easier. But they do have a selection of no upcharge shafts to help launch.

I mean, Callaway has it all over Titleist in terms of the entire market: They have Β (1) the XR Line for easy to launch woods, (2) the GBB Line for easy to launch that is adjustable, and the Heavenwood (adjustable), and the (3) Better Player 816 line, with weights for front and back that can be switched - 16g in back and 3g in front if you want higher MOI, and they are cupface - no brazing or welding on the face so the entire face is more forgiving; and then they have a choice of stock shafts and some no-upcharge shafts.

And hybrids, gosh, Callaway has the XR Line, which are hot and easy with a choice of no upcharge shafts, the GBB adjustable line, and the 815 line for better players -- cupface and playable clubs.

I mean, they are both great for the intended market, but one can no longer say Titleist has the better fairway and hybrid lineup.

It's what fits you.

But Callaway is putting out some clubs for the serious player, too.

Wowser.

Where do you want your weight?

No "neither" option ???

Does anybody actually pay full retail and take advantage of shaft options from the factory to get that elusive perfect fit ?Β Β Β Β Β I guess people do ... I'm just too much of a chisler - I always wait a couple years and get my gear at 1/5 the price.

I think there a lot of "anybodys."

And you can get some of the price knocked off with online dealers, and occasional OEM and brick and mortar specials.

I'd need that option to vote as well.Β  I don't have anything Titleist or Callaway in my bag.

FWIW though, if forced to choose between the two I'd most likely be playing Callaway clubs and balls, as they have a wider selection more geared toward higher handicap golfers.Β  I'm not a fan of any of the ProV balls (especially at their price point), and I think Scotty Cameron putters are overpriced fashion accessories.Β  If I'm paying that much for a putter, I'm going to Edel and getting custom fitted.Β  From what I can tell, there's nothing about an off-the-rack Cameron putter that's going to make it sink putts any better than an off-the-rack bargain basement knockoff putter.

Now if either company wants to sponsor me and give me all free gear, I take back everything I just said and whichever one of them coughs up the swag is the best stuff in the world. :-D

The mistake you can make is buying much of this new. Most of my gear was bought used after doing research. Especially putters. People get rid of new putters all the time because it wasn't a magic fix. I have never bought a new putter. The SC I have now was less than $150 on e-bay.

As for the poll, I prefer Titleist to Callaway only because I've never had any Callaway stuff other than clothes. I'm sure the are good products but I haven't had the opportunity to try.

My bag is absolutely overflowing with Titleist stuff, almost to the point of embarrassment...and I vote neither. Buy what you like, and what works for you. I never set out to be a single brand guy. It just worked that way. Neither will I have any issues trying different brands when it's time to upgrade any given component.

Now they don't. They make clubs Β for all players. An example, Titleist have some of the most forgiving drivers on the market. The only thing I think they might want to do is actually offer a slightly lower priced option. It is a misconception that Titleist drivers are only for better players.

Titleist 915's are in the black and gray
Callaway Double Black Diamond is the green
As you can see Titleist has the higher MOI.

Look at Titleist website. You can get the Mitsubishi Diamana S+ Blue (medium launch) or the Mitsubishi Diamana M+ Red which is high launching. To say they don't have stock shaft options that help get the ball in the air is false.

Depends on the club. Certain clubs I would pay full retail. Some I would probably wait. I like the Golfsmith near me because they have a lot of last year's clubs in the used rack, hardly used, at a big time discount.

I really like everything under the Titliest banner. It's my preferred ball (except for the Snell as well) and the Cameron putter I will have for life. The Vokey wedges are fantastic, IMO. I really like their woods and hybrids as well. The only outlier are my irons which are Mizunos. I always wanted a set and am happy to be able to play them. That being said, whatever works for you is what to go with. I like how Titleist release their products and balances tradition vs technology. Callaway makes great stuff too. Worth keeping an eye on.

I'd prefer Callaway driver, woods and hybrids, Titleist irons, wedges and everything else.

Since I had to pick one, I went with Titleist as I prefer their irons and wedges over any of the irons and wedges Callaway makes and would beΒ fine with hitting Titleist woods.

Callaway, only because of the points you can earn with every purchase of their stuff.

Driver: titleist, to me Callaway drivers are too similar to Taylor mades these days. (I game a i25) Woods: titleist,by a nose, and in all honesty both offer very good woods. my 910f is still in the bag, bomber off the tee and high launcher of the deck. Irons: titleist and it's not even close (I game TM tp Mc irons circa 2012) Wedges: titleist buy a mile. I couldn't take looking at the mack daddy wedge by the ball seriously. Putters: Callaway I guess. I can't stand titleist putters. (I game a nike method) Ball: titleist and only because I don't like the look of the hex dimple's that Callaway swears by. (I game the TM TP5 cause their cheap, like me, and perform like Pro Vs)

Driver Titleist 913 D2, 58 degree vokey - with the exception of my 2 niblicks, the rest of my bag is Callaway - the hybrids and 9 wood feel like cheating, love the x2 hot irons and odyssey is one of very few to make an arm lock putter.

I was fit for the driver and Titleist has been excellent about replacing drivers when the screw snaps.

Previously owned AP1s and my game improved once I moved on. Also tried the 2014 Big Bertha for a short time earlier this year while my driver was being replaced and it did not work out well for me.
