If someone can tell me the point at which this thread stopped being about "how much golf your wife lets you play" and started being about evolution and man's primal urges or whatever the heck it's devolved in to, I would appreciate it, so I can move all the posts after that point to the Grill Room.

Just a link to that post, please, where it really took a turn.

My version of this is how much golf is too much for work given I often step out a tad early when I can. Basically for me as long as I can fulfill my obligations what I do for fun is nobody's business. A bigger problem is spending too much money golfing, my retirement told me it's time to cut back. I am easily out there 4-5 times a week. Crazy thing is many days I don't finish so I pay to play some golf, often not enough to even post a score. So it's $31 dollars plus a couple brews to leave without finishing if I can't get around the late day golf zombies out there.

Oh good god. I've never cheated on even a girlfriend in high school. Up until about a year ago I was a devoted Christian and have only slept with 2 women in my life if you must know...my ex wife and my current wife. Same with her. This conversation reminds me of what happens when someone leaves a religion. People always assume you are "mad at God" because something must have happened to you to turn away. They never think, "Gee, maybe he just doesn't believe because he has a history degree, learns science in his spare time, has read more book for and against a god concept than I ever have, and he knows it's bull crap. No, that would be too scary a thought. He must have lost a close family member or something or God didn't answer his prayers so he got mad! I am a realist. Look up the definition. I see things for the way they are, not for the way I wish they would be. It's just like the golf delusion thread. The people like Mike and Erik see golf and golfers for who they really are because of life experience and vast amounts of research and study.

Your wife slept with your ex-wife????? I like it!

I think after post #112 it really started to go off topic.

Sounds about right.  There are a few legit responses (including mine ;)) after that point, but yeah, that was the beginning of the nonsense.

My wife and I are homebodies for the most part. She volunteers at the local humane society on Sundays....She tells me to go golf, and I'm good wit dat! I just need once a week for playing an actual round. But, twice a week I'll hit the range on the way home from work. One for the golf, the other for the guns. Life is good!

Oh I get it-This is the thread where @Duff McGee reveals that he thinks he is all knowing about something but really just keeps coming off like a fool because he read one book and has been married or slept with roughly 0.00000% of the female population. Cripes kid you have got a lot to learn. And what this has to do with playing golf is beyond me.-I live golf but enjoy my time away and most of that is spent with my wife, whom I cherish and consider a partner. Talk to me when you have been married 40 years.

Your appeal to authority (age) fallacy means nothing to me. What about my post offended you so badly? Why don't you try to attack my arguments with evidence instead of your pathetic insults?

Given the ratio of story time to evidence in your posts in this thread, I'm not sure I'd start with the how about some evidence bluster...

He said "you are a fool and I am older and wiser and you are wrong." I backed up my comments with explanations. There are tons of studies on this that are only a Google search away. But it doesn't matter. Many of the posters on here understand and the others rely on conventional wisdom. It's odd that I was attacked for my opinions which did not insult anyone. Maybe what I said hit too close to home for some of you and this is some kind of defense mechanism. I don't remember attacking anyone, yet I have been berrated for about 3 full pages for very reasonable things I have said as well as things I actually never said. I know this is a tough concept for some people, but just because about 4 people disagreed with something one person says doesn't mean you can take all four of those posters' posts and combine them into one giant scapegoat.

If you include me in that group I want you to know that I am not attacking you.  I am always more than happy to discuss topics and concepts, I try not to attack persons.  I have seen many of your other posts and usually am in agreement.  I thought you said some things that were, lets say, interesting and I responded to them.

If anything I have said was insulting to you, I apologize, think you are an alright dude....for a guy who owns a law firm.

There is a little too much TMI lately in this thread.

But gheez, I can't talk about successful husband and wife relations, because I only have great relationships with my ex-wives.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
