What'd You Shoot Today?

I shot a 75 on my home course. My driver is broken, so I hit my 3 wood all day. Front side 7/7 FIR 9/9 GIR. @ putted every hole for even par. Had 3 bogeys on the back. The heat was abusive and I was walking. Today I got humbled today with a 42 / 44 = 86. We played the Innisbrook Copperhead course. 6725 yards, 73.7 / 136. I drove the ball great with my 3 wood but only 230-240 at best. Only remember missing 2 fairways and not by much. But my approaches were long on every hole. 5 pars, 12 bogeys and one double on the easiest hole (175 yard par 3 over water. Easy my ass!). The greens were like concrete. The stimp must have been 13 or 14. The rough was only about 2 inches, but the ball went all the way to the bottom. Plus the course was extremely wet after several days of rain. Heavy dew. No roll. I'm beat.

Kittyhawk GC, Falcon course, Dayton, OH

Saturday - 77

Sunday - 76

Weekend scheduling had me playing two quick rounds at Dayton's tough old executive course. I hit the ball fairly crisply, but with no accuracy. My second shots were a lot of pitches, chips and long putts. That second shot determined par, bogey or worse. Bogey golf is still a goal for most rounds and I had a real shot at it on the last of Sunday. I pumped two drives on the par-4 18th into bandit country and killed that chance.

The Copperhead Course can be demoralizing! I know for a fact as a former Staff member at the "Brook. The rough is especially brutal where the players walk off the green. For sure, it has been wet lately in this part of the world. I posted a 72 from the back at The Bayou Club on Sunday.

Cheers!

Disney Magnolia.  Par 72, 6560 yards,  71.6 / 130

Really ugly 83 with 3 doubles (without any penalty strokes) and no birdies.  5 hour round.  Course was sloppy wet, cart path only and still recovering from aeration 3 weeks ago.  Still no excuse for play like that.  As close to not having fun playing golf as you're gonna get.

3 penalties - 2 of them on the same hole   aaarrrrgh

Well - great long fairway iron and hybrid day .

short irons approaches were 'typical' (thus I got to practice chipping a lot)

I'm lousy at long putts (as evidenced by hole 17 - I'd rather be scrambling)

and my chipping and 'typical' putt lengths were phenomenal (for me, anyway)

Particularly pleased with #16.  I played my provisional, thus the penalty, but that 2nd ball went down in 4 even though the hole was bogie.  This is a particularly tough hole for me and my approach shot was tricky and I pulled it off to the edge of the fringe and had a good chip and a good putt.

But I've totally lost my driver control.  Normally one of my best clubs, but I only hit down the line like I'm used to once, really, on 15.  Good hole to have an on target drive though (left a 40 yd chip that I choked short of intentions).

On the plus side all the other clubs were pretty decent.  And I had some really nice recoveries.  Hadn't had a birdie in a long time, just good regulation golf - so the two birds were particularly satisfying.

Weird game this 'golf'.

Compare that to a recent game a couple weeks ago....

I really need to take additional notes and figure out what I'm doing right on those days I'm actually doing something right.......stats just say when I'm doing stuff right and wrong, but not why.... next stage...

I have pretty severe elbow tendonitis now, I suspect that might be it for the season - as far as a lot of practice and golf.  During the round it felt great, but clearly playing even the once set back my recovery and I still plan to play until winter.  No driving range for me will likely be bad shot to my scoring now.....

Triple, double, bogey, par, par, bogey, par, and a 5 foot putt left on a par 3. Got rained out. Got my distance back, good thing because there was no roll today. First hole had 40 yards left and managed 6 strokes from there. Bladed my approach with the 60 degree OB, and it went downhill from there. Second hole overshot a chip, but chipped on the green between two branches. Then chunked the putt for a 6. Got better. Everything else was up and down. The ground was soggy. My last hole would have been a birdie, of course we'll never know.

Not sure it was even a 10. Three shots plus penalties for each is six…

I shot 73 and played like BUTT. Just happened to hit "okay" shots when I really kind of had to.

I shot a foam nerf ball think with one of those nerf gun things... I digress... Played 9... shot 40... made 9 at the first... played the last eight in level... chipping and pitching was deadly... been working on a single plane swing... starting to hit it a little further I had about 158 yards with the tee up on the par three 7th, nutted a 7-iron right on the sweet spot right at the flag on the 8th tee, I marked my spot on the tee with my rangefinder app... I hit it almost 195 into the wind with a 7-iron... I made par in case you were wondering... 40 1 Birdie 6 pars 1 bogey And a quad ouch 4/7 fairways 2/9 GIR 11 putts Yes 11 PUTTS I hit all my chips and pitches inside 4 feet and made all the putts... was on in 2 on 9 and two-putted for birdie... I played 9 holes in a hour and five minutes... talk about pace of play improvements my usual league partner and I don't screw around

Brookside Course 1 Gold tees (74.5/134)/7037: 44 on the front 9 (37/133)

https://ncrdb.usga.org/NCRDB/courseTeeInfo.aspx?CourseID=9051

I needed a telescope to see the tee boxes I normally play, playing 10 to 100 yards behind my normal blue tees. I played with some long hitters today, and they all played from the championship tees, and I got "suckered" into playing them as well. 8 fairways hit, 16 putts, 6 bogeys, 1 double bogey, 2 pars. Scrambled on everything but hole 9 where I made 1 GIR. Six of my holes were kind of near the green, but I was so far back to begin with that it was always 40 something yards short. I feel like I could have broken 90 on the entire course, because I feel more comfortable playing the back 9 having spent a lot of time on it last winter.

I also pulled out my 4i and 3i 3 times, and got reasonable shots. The good news is that I am now equally inconsistent with all my irons. :-D

It was a feel good moment when I tallied up the score in GolfLogix and saw that 44.

Last week I shot 39-41 = 80 when I bogied the 18th hole.

Monday I shot 39-40 = 79 when I parred the 18th hole.

I realize that it is only a one shot difference, but anytime I break 80 it is a great day.

Been shooting consistently in the high 80's lately, which I'm really happy with for now...

Today, I shot a 53/53=106.

It was ugly all the way around. Nothing was working for me. My putting stunk, driver stunk, chipping...

I've had 2 rounds of golf this first year that I'm totally embarrassed by; both on the same course (which isn't particularly hard).

I survived.

I just don't understand how this was possible.

Not quite.

Okay, I played the back 9 today. The starter said the other courses were jammed with people, and said "I can put you on the back 9 of 1". Needlessly said,  I took him up on it and played the gold tee positions (for some reason the gold tees were moved up today, so I had to move back to where they normally reside).

I shot a 46, and was just happy to have survived. Tripled the last hole and doubled a par 5. All I can say is wow what a long way to shoot balls. I partnered with someone after the 13th hole, and he looked really far away when we were on the tee boxes. :-$

They had sand on the greens so I 3 putted a couple holes (the triple and double of course). 5 bogeys, 1 double and 1 triple, 2 pars (these holes were only 1 or two clubs behind the normal tees I play, and are the easiest holes on the course). 7 fairways, no greens everything was a scramble except one of the two pars (the par 3).16 putts.

I shanked an approaches with my 3i, but made up for it on a long par 3 (202 yards) and miraculously made it on the green.

So, I can say that I shot a 90 (front and back on two consecutive days), on Brookside Course 1 Gold (74.5/134 7037 yards). Obviously, I'm going to try it a few more times, then do them in one shot sometime soon. Thinking back to 2 years ago, I shot "115" on this course and probably some of them from the blue tee positions. I put the "115" in quotes because likely that it was several strokes higher because I didn't really know how to score OB back then. I didn't get a single OB, but did play a couple shots from the in between space between the holes.

EDIT: Time really flies. About 11 months ago, I was happy to break 100 with a 95 at Santa Anita off the blue tees (70.4/122). Apparently, I was playing white tees one year ago (67.8/118).

Shot 50 on the back nine after work today and it is killing my scores lately. Front nine I'm averaging 40-45 but the back is always 10 or more strokes higher. Back is longer so probably has a lot to do with it. Course is 3051 front 3156 back 70.0/129.

Yesterday: Played 9 & shot a 47(par 36). 4 pars, 4 doubles and 1 triple... Only 3 putted once (for double) . hit my second shot on #2 way long & OB which led to the triple. One of my best ball striking days this year.

Parred 3 holes at Brookside Course 1 Blue tees.

Missed a birdie putt by only a couple inches, with an extremely lucky drive off a sprinkler head and cart path that took the ball less than 40 yards from the hole.
