87.

Could easily have been an 81.

...or a 91.

One triple.  Otherwise, just a bunch of bogeys - very few pars.

Posted

Played 9 holes last week and shot a 43.  I had a streak of (3) pars in a row, my remaining totals were (3) bogeys, (1) double, (1) triple.  Overall, my ball striking was solid, with the exception of two shots that were badly mishit.  My putting failed me and my score shows it, but I finally consistently hit my driver and irons.  I averaged 280 off the tee, but my irons were longer than usual on almost every shot.  I was hitting my pitching wedge between 135-140, which is unheard of for me.  I adjusted and started pulling one less club for every shot and started hitting greens on most of my approach shots that were 150 yards and closer (although two of these approaches yielded a shot that was literally on the green by one inch... almost touching fringe).

I'm going to try and fit more of these 9-hole rounds into my schedule during the week to see if I can start doing a better job of executing on the green.  My putting has improved, I only three-putted a couple of times, but I'd like to work on capping my green game to two putts or less consistently.  Last week was a great start to this goal.

A fugly 43, was 5 over after 3 holes. Missed two birdie putts on the par 5's. Getting better at not falling apart but tired of salvaging scores that could be lower by avoiding stupid mistakes. Lost all my strokes on back to back doubles one on a par 3.

couldn't string two good shots back to back. Drove the ball decent, just couldn't get the iron game going, and the wedge game is just non existent. Its pathetic that I am more accurate from 170 yards than I am from 40 yards.

Tally-Ho did a 89 today at my home course. 70/119  46F/43B ..6295yds...more Geese than golfers today. I took my 710 MB's out and discovered their secret...put a little wrist flick into the shot, like with a wedge and Whammo!...you're up in the air like a cavity back. Yes I am dumb that way...I haven't played Blades since the 80's. ...sad I only have 2 rounds left before I have to put it all away for fall/winter...

41 with two good bogey saves. Dang near died laughing after I chunked a drive 30 yards. Thankfully I had witnesses. Actually played 12 holes, was +1 on the other 3.

Drove the ball very well today. Putting was bad, and so is the wedge game. Horrible from inside 100 yards.

Irons i kept hitting left, need to fix.

Got a new putter for my b-day, haven't quite figured it out yet.  3 - 3 putts and a couple of other missed putts to save up and downs.

Playing Belle Haven CC today, hopefully I'll find the putting stroke.

Shot a wind swept 90 at a "foreign" course. Four 6's on the card the rest a mix of 4's and 5's and one 3. Pretty workman like round. Typically coming to the end of the season and i hit possibly the best drive i've managed all year.Had a new hybrid club in the bag and results  were mixed. Not sure wither to keep playing once a week through the winter or just hit the range every couple of weeks.

Been playing a really short muni course the last couple of weeks... plays 4090 yds par 66, rating is 60.4/94. Shot 76 today, great iron work course. Better than the range for me. Can practice and play. Front side 41, came back in 35... 3 birdies today, tons of fun. There are 3 fairly straight par 4's that you can use the driver... almost drove the 285 yd 8th, left it left and 15 yds short... then turned around and almost hit the 254 yd 9th, about 25 short into a pretty good wind today... Been working on my driver, specifically starting my hip turn as I finish my backswing, really flushed it good today... fun stuff.

96 (48+48) at my short home course today (5,800 yd. par 70, 67.1/124).  Not particularly accurate off the tee, but stayed out of trouble for the most part.  Biggest problem today seemed to be judging distances on my approach shots, too many balls that looked good off the club but ended up being waaaaaaay over the green or waaaaaaaay short of it.  Short game was ok for the most part, putter bailed me out alot though.

Stats:  3 out of 14 Fairways, 1 GIR, 33 puts, 1 par, 9 bogeys, 7 doubles, 1 triple.

    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
    • I saw this comment made in a golf article... "Most golfers stand over a 4- or 5-iron still negotiating with themselves. They think about how hard to swing, whether they have the right club, if they have the aim correct and more. It’s a lot to deal with and long irons punish the “half-in” golf swing." I am not sure the "most golfers" is correct regarding the bolded part. I can understand if there is a bunker, water, and/or OB that a lot of golfers would be fixated on that. I am not sure that leads to ending up more times there. Pending your level in golf, the variance is so large in outcomes, it could be just with in the expected outcomes. I can understand if have a big lake on the right side of the hole being one of the most terrifying shots for right-handed amateur golfers.  I am not sure many golfers are standing over the ball talking to themselves, "Ok, maybe I should step back and pull the 4-iron. Am I lined up right? Oh, the wind came up, should I swing harder? What am I going to have for dinner tonight, maybe steak. (Joking, somewhat 😛)" A question is that how much chatter do you get while standing over the ball. Are you questioning the everything about your golf shot?
