Day is a freak.  Drives the green and opens with an eagle...

Day's swing opening hole. Back issues, you never know what you're gonna get.

So does head-to-come into play when determining the winner of a group. I imagine it would. If that's the case, Spieth would be into the elimination round if Donaldson wins because the worst he can do is end up 2-1 with Dubuisson or Donaldson, both of whom he beat.

Speith is probably going to win this thing, huh? Probably the only guy that actually knows the course, and he's on a roll so far.

The other guys will know the course by the time they play their third or fourth round on it.

And in match play, anything can happen.

So apparently Spieth isn't a lock to advance? That's the one thing I don't like about this format. Hypothetically if Spieth were to lose tomorrow he should advance based on head-to-head with whoever else is 2-1. Every other sport that uses this format uses those rules. Don't get it. I get that they're trying to make more matches meaningful, but still doesn't make it right.

Yeah...no.  Not even close.  I was severely chastized by a St Andrews caddie when I told her, "well, Fannie knows this course so well cuz she's played and scouted it so much for Nick, right?"

Holy shit.  You might have thought I compared William Wallace to Hitler.  She lit into me so hard and viciously that my head spun.  No, it takes more than 3 or 4 rounds (or in that case 40 or 50 rounds compared to the caddie's 1000 or so) to figure out a course.  Especially an undulating one with lots of variable winds.

Jordan has the distinct advantage on this course, period.  Whether he takes it to the championship is still up in the air because your final sentence was accurate, anything can happen in match play.

This course is not the Old Course. PGA Tour pros learn courses fairly quickly.

Plus, if you get this prediction right it will be your first.

My thought was that it probably makes the most difference on and around the greens, because Spieth has played here so much that he knows what a lot of putts will do. But that's probably marginal, because the others will get the general breaks from their practice round.

And they have green maps which show everything, too.

I wish I could get these for courses I don't regularly play.

I didn't watch this live, so guessing there's something very hard underneath. But hey, he got some massive lag - so there's that! :-P

He hit the rock wall on his downswing, kind of surprised he didn't do some practice swings to ensure he was clear of the rock wall.
