Humble Greetings .....

CBS just closed out its 2nd round Masters Highlights Show with a brief talk with Arnold Palmer. It was upbeat, but left me with a feeling that something was up, even if no one said out loud that something was up. Did anyone watch and feel the same way?

He hasn't been looking well in any photos or video I have seen. I hope he's ok.

He definitely doesn't look good, and not hitting one of the ceremonial drives wasn't a good sign either.

Looked terrible Thursday morning. I thought maybe it was the ill fitting jacket...

It's sad to see. He's definitely failing. Was talking with my dad last night and he's really aged in the last year or two.

IIRC, Arnold took a fall recently and injured his right shoulder.  Must not be healing well.  You could see at the masters he could barely raise is right arm to give his signature 'thumbs up' for the cameras.

When folks get that age (my mom is just about Arnold's age) they become unsteady and suffer falls.  As a result, they curtail physical activity to limit the likelihood of further falls resulting in injury.  The result of inactivity at that age is frailty.  Arnold was moving pretty slowly, sitting during the opening ceremony and honestly, looking eerily similar to how I see my 85 year old mom.

Arnie did look like something was up with his health (and as others have pointed to a recent fall and shoulder problem that could explain things).  He looked a bit gaunt around the neck and face area which I think is a sign in older persons of losing weight and slowing down.

In contrast Gary looked great and although Jack seemed to have trouble with his golf swing he looked decent from a physical standpoint.

As the Big 3 get older and eventually pass on it will truly be a great loss for the sport much as the passing of Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson was.

Who will be the next 3, Tiger, Phil and Vijay or Watson?

I can see Watson being recruited, if he wants to do it. This was his last Masters.

I agree, Arnie does not look good. He looks gaunt. I hate to bring up the "C" word, but I've seen too many people who have it get that look. He's 86 now. My Mom died at 86. Arnie always looked robust even as he got older. Jack is 76 now and still looks OK. Player is 80 and what can you say about him. It's amazing how he looks at his age.

Arnie is 6 years older than Player and I thought he looked great at 80--6 yrs ago--as Gary does today.  I marvel at all 3 of these gents but I wouldnt count on Gary making that ceremonial shot in 2022, nor Jack in 2026.  It's a big ask. I just hope we get to see Arnie one more time at Bay Hill and Augusta in '17.

I'd probably insert Crenshaw in there somewhere.  Don't see Vijay honestly, and Tiger/Phil still have a little left in the tank.

I can see Watson taking Arnie's place.  But filling Jack and Gary's shoes will be tougher.  Faldo?  Not exactly a beloved or revered golfer in the USA.  Langer? Olazabal?  I would guess Crenshaw joins Tom Watson and then possibly Couples.  Not exactly the "Big 3" but what are you going to do?
