This is the week before the Player's Championship tournament. It usually has a good field as players want to fine tune there game for next week's tournament. Rory is the defending champion.

I don't know why, but I always think of this song when this tournament comes around.

And now it is stuck in all of your heads! :-)

Looking forward to this week.  I have been going to the Wells Fargo Championship for every year except the very first year they had it.  Quail Hollow is truly a great course and just a solid track with no real gimmicks.  Next year it will be hosting the PGA Championship, and the Wells Fargo will be played in Wilmington.

I'll be at Quail Hollow Friday and Sunday, hoping for a great tournament.  My pick to win this week: Kevin Kisner.

Cool. If you have a chance to post some pictures, that would be nice too!

Looking forward to a good one after a few sleepy weeks since The Masters.  I rarely ever say this - but I pick Phil to win.  Lot of players coming into the week in good form and Phil is totally not one of them . .but you know he's going to win at least once this year and he does well on this course.

Rory's 62 on Sunday in 2010 remains the greatest round of golf I've ever seen. We haven't talked about him much in these forums lately; I expect that to change this week.

In my UnderArmour Links stand bag...

Driver: '07 Burner 9.5° (stiff graphite shaft)
Woods: SasQuatch 17° 4-Wood (stiff graphite shaft)
Hybrid: 4DX Ironwood 20° (stiff graphite shaft)Irons/Wedges: Apex Edge 3-PW, GW, SW (stiff shaft); Carnoustie 60° LWPutter: Rossa AGSI+ Corzina...

I agree with Chilli, Rory is going to be at the top of a leaderboard soon & he is very comfortable at Quail Hollow. I see him as my pick this week

I thought it was a 61?

Rory shot 61 here last year, but that round wasn't as spectacular as his final round in 2010.

Ah, gotcha. That incredible though, to have a 61 and a 62 on one course.

I'm a moderate Phil fan and would be happy to see this but I think it's a stretch to think he'll win (or is due a win) this year. He hasn't won a tournament since the '13 Open and at his age, history would tell us that it's far from a sure thing that he'll ever win again on tour. I think/hope he's got a couple good runs left in him, but just saying that when we're talking about an almost 46 year old, we can't take anything for granted.

Stop confusing things with facts and reality, lol.  Phil for the win!

    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno….
    • Day 215 (3 Dec 24) - Another very chilly day - opted to work on easy pitches in the backyard. Worked thru the irons and wedges - focused on foot position and tempo.
    • Yes. I believe in using the same ball all of the time, including chipping and putting practice. I use the orange Callaway Supersoft.  Only $25 per dozen, and sometimes on sale for $20.
    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
