Four hours from Detroit, one from Traverse city, interesting layout, I'd probably hit to a wrong green. Check out the reversible yardage book.

Doak seems set on having The Loop rated as one course. I don't think that's possible. Yes, it's 18 greens. But it's two very different courses. Rating it as one course discredits the work Doak and his team did to make it look and play like two different courses.

"Our biggest fear is that people like one course a lot more than the other course," said Doak. "I'm very happy with what we've done. There are a few of the best holes on both courses. I think people will enjoy both of them, and that was a hard thing to do."

If it was only a little bit closer, I'd be tempted to make the trip there.

That said, if someone can organize a little TST outing… or wants some help in organizing one… I could probably be tempted…

I hope they have a lot of good signage to avoid confusion.

It's worth the trip. I was fortunate to play it in late September, both directions. It's a very cool course and great fun. It played very firm and fast as it's not fully grown in but expect it to be f and f all the time. The fairways are very wide but you have to aim towards one side or the other depending on pin position or potential hazards like the plantings, fairway bunkers and waste areas. The green complexes are what make the course which is typical Doak. There are numerous options if you miss them, bump, putt, chip or pitch depending on where you miss. It's a challenging and fun course.

I will be vacationing in this area July 15-22 if anyone is interested in an outing or a small meetup, I could help organize.

    • Day 7 - Mirror work, trying to hit that PGA-logo position in my follow through. Mirror really helped, need to film soon.
    • So hit the😝 irons crooked AND play layup golf?? Hahaha.. no thanks. I would rather stay home. 😊
    • First - glad to see these popping up again. Now to the topic at hand - I would rather be option 1.  If I know how far it's going (I mean a yard or two) I can always play to the wider parts of the fairway and/or the green and still do reasonably well.  Now if I could just really hit the "number" that well.
    • Day 2 (10 Mar 25) - Long day of driving to dr appt with son.  Thankfully got in one of my fave putting drills (two ball side by side) - the goal to have both balls come off the putter face equally by having them come off the putter face as close to the same time as possible.  First few rolls - the toe was leading the way as that ball flew off the face.  By the end of the drill both balls were basically equal off the face, rolling to within a couple of inches of each other.  Nice drill of focusing on squaring the face.  BTW - I was using the old Odyssey DF992.
    • Day 161 - 2025-03-10 Got a decent, long session in. Focused mostly on the backswing feels, and moved on toward the end of the four hours (not all hitting balls, I installed a motion sensing light switch in there too, and worked with a student over FaceTime for a bit) on the downswing feel.
