I heard Fowler 4-putted the first to start with double-bogey, and just saw him miss a short-ish putt a moment ago. No Americans in the 25 players who are under par right now.

Reviewing the pics on the Olympics site, they seem like mugshots:

I bet Fowler and company have been partying hard, I've yet to check his Snapchat. Maybe he's running on fumes, lol.

Possibly. If they are on board with 'the program' what they realize is that a dramatic win from one of the lower ranked players over the 'establishment' top players will generate more interest. So they may as well enjoy the holiday. :-P

I've actually got a friend down in Rio and he texted me last night saying he saw Fowler having a good time with some hot lady (his girlfriend I would imagine), so I think it's safe to say he's been enjoying the nightlife in Rio. And really, that's been Rickie's story. A lot of people have said he could be better if he devoted more time to golf and less time partying and having fun. But I'm not going to fault him for that. It's his life. He can do with it what he wants.

Justin Rose gives us a glimpse of his Rio digs. Check out the Trackman on the chair. Someone commented it's pretty... "basic". Well, what did you expect?

Yeah obviously there is room for improvement in Rickie's game. On the other hand, he is making a hell of a good living doing what he wants.

This is the only video I could find on social media, Rose's hole in one. Comcast is clamping down.

Forgetting about zeka,  if these Olympics were in the states do you think all of the missing players would have went?  I think mcilroy and Co would have played in the states due to the bigger galleries and there would have been more exposure.

So on the Olympics website, are they really only giving the top 4 as cumulative under par? The rest of the round 2 leaderboard seems to be the round 2 score only? They can't be this bad, can they?

https://www.rio2016.com/en/golf-mens-round-2

Any better leaderboards out there? The european tour leaderboard links to the BBC which just gives the round 2 scores and the round 1 leaderboard and sends you to the link above for in play scores. The PGA tour leaderboard is showing nothing.

Okay found one, courtesy of the International Golf Federation: -

I am watching right now, and there was quite a strange ruling IMO. Has anyone seen it?

Thongchai Jaidee and Rafa Cabrera-Bello both hit into a greenside bunker and did so in such a way, that their balls touched each other. So what did they do? Rafa, whose ball was closer to the hole, marked his ball with a tee and then moved it two clubhead-lengths to the side, so that Jaidee was able to hit his shot without blasting the marker out. So far, nothing special. But then, after Jaidee's shot, Cabrera-Bello raked the part of the bunker, where the balls lied, himself, before putting the ball back into the bunker. All of course while a referee was watching them.

So the marking and all is imho pretty basic, but he did rake the bunker himself before playing. Why didn't the let Jaidee (or his caddy) do the raking? The way they proceeded, Rafa was obviously testing the bunker.

Best part of this whole coincidence: While the two were discussing the ruling with the referee, Henrik Stenson simply holed a 20+ yard putt :D

I have no idea about the bunker thing. I guess because Jaidee splashed the area, perhaps Cabrera-Belllo is allowed to rake in order most closely re-create his original lie.

After a quick read of the applicable rule (20-3.,(iii)) I don't see anything that specifies who should rake.  It simply says that the lie must be recreated and the ball placed.  Since the player must lift the ball, and must place the ball, I'd suggest that its the player's responsibility to recreate the lie, not his Fellow Competitor's.

We're getting whooped up on, lol.  The biggest surprise is Rickie Fowler . .which I only say because I really expected him to have the best chance of the US players to win.  The whole leader board is a surprise to me - the only player really playing the way I thought they would is Henrik Stenson - that guy's a beast!

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
