1/28: Played 18 and 15 today and then it was dark. Shot 102 and 17 over, not good at all, but my buddies played worse and I had a lot of fun anyway. It was cold (at least for this Florida boy), and that didn't help.

Now for the positives... After 20 or so holes, I finally found my driver. Drives were bad (and weird) all day until then, just couldn't find "my" swing, and then boom...high and in the fairway for the rest of the day. Being cold and stiff, I used the 3/4 shot a lot, even on layups. It may be what saved me from an even higher score. Putting seemed horrible, lots of 3 putts, but I hit a lot of greens (just not in regulation :-() so I was starting with 40-60+ footers a lot.

The pitches I did have were really good. However, I've been playing with a DT Solo but found a ProV1 in my truck this morning and played that instead. The difference was clear. I was hitting my targets but kept expecting roll out and never got it. Aim is getting better with pitches and I didn't have any mishits (I usually have at least one bad one).

All in all enough positives (and good jokes) to make it a great day.

1/29.  TORC swings inside to stretch.  Like the feeing of the extra weight at the club head end.

1/29: 15 min. Focused only on right arm/elbow positioning. Reviewed last video lesson results, and I'll stick with that for a week. Then I'll add back in the flat left wrist focus, which I've been working on for a while.

The reminder from my instructor on the right elbow seems exactly what I needed to really start solidifying all my work over the past few months. Hard to believe how out of position I let the right elbow get! A4 is really starting to feel powerful now. I think my exercise and stretching routine has helped too, as I'm now able to get my hips/shoulders/arms into these positions more easily. Feeling like progress, but I'll continue to do exactly what the instructor tells me, until the next chance to for a video submission.

1/29 - Same as yesterday. Hit into my net in the backyard focusing on Key 3 drill. Filmed the season. Fairly cold, around 40F. No wind today compared to yesterday, so felt warmer.

1/29: Played 18 again today. Shot 94 (45/49). Just couldn't stay away from double bogeys, had 8 of them. Got stuck in 3 bunkers and couldn't get out at first. Technique was okay, just afraid of them and took puny swings and barely missed getting out. It was very windy and I don't think I payed enough attention to it (except for on the tee box when it was behind us and I knew it meant, "swing harder!" :-P).

On the plus side, I had 8 one-putts and 30 putts total. The best pitching and putting I've had in quite some time (typical round is 36, yesterday I had 41). Everything else was up and down. Great one hole, crappy the next. Several good golf shots here and there, though. The shot of the day was truly, "Phil-esque"...

A 40yd pitch up the hill and over a big bunker to a downhill short-sided pin, meaning I could only see the top foot or so of the flag stick. The ball popped up high and disappeared just on the other side of the bunker, rolled down the hill and stopped a foot short of the hole. Easy tap-in par on the highest rated hole on the course. Go figure. :content:

Good luck!!!!!!!!!! Hope recovery is smooth sailing

1/30: 10 minutes right elbow staying more in front, closer to left elbow. (I haven't actually done it yet - will do within the hour- but u know I'm good for it right?)

Thanks! This one on Wed shouldn't be a big deal, just a preliminary requirement for the 2nd to come.

And yeah, while I'm certainly not one of the powers that be, I think you have plenty of street credit at this point.

1/30 - 10 minutes mirror work this morning focusing on key 3. worked with the feel of the shoulders turning faster, especially the left shoulder completing the turn to the finished.

Decided that straightening the legs a bit more and standing more upright works just as well as anything else.

Working on the A2 to A3 then holding at A4. The hold at A4 is to try to "stretch and relax" the muscles so that A4 feels a bit more natural. Trying to find the farthest position where A4 still feels relaxed as opposed to "coiled".

Adding A5 to my practice sequence. So, working on the movement from A2 to A5.

Going to add this with a deliberate pause at A4 for every practice swing and on the driving range.

1/30: 10 minutes of slow backswings, with the occasional shot, focusing on hip turn and steady head. Then another 5 or 10 minutes practicing shaping the ball left or right (they're plastic, so it's (much) easier to get them moving, but still). Picked a target, imagined an overhanging tree on one side or the other and tried to hit around it. Quite fun.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
