Today, I was in a greenside bunker on a par 5, with maybe 40 feet of green between me and the hole. Typically in the past I would almost count on it skulling or duffing and the ball going no where, but today for some reason my sand game was on. I hit the perfect shot, nearly holed it, and putter home from 5-6 feet for my par. Best up and down all year by FAR.

Also made it up and down for par on a DEEP par 3 bunker.

hit an 8 iron from about 155 in the rough to around 8 feet from the pin on a 570 yard par 5 for my first chance at birdie on the hole ever. missed the putt feel like im starting to get the hang of the scoring clubs.

17th hole par 5 I hit a really nice 3 wood off the tee and left myself about 200 yards to the pin.  Hit a 4 hybrid from there and it it perfectly and was sitting about 8 feet from the hole in 2.  First time I ever hit a green in two on a par 5.

Came up about 2 inches short on the eagle putt :(

yesterday, 400 yard par 4 dogleg left to right. everytime i try to go over the trees i clip the top and end up hacking out, so i hit 5 iron off the tee, slight draw perfectly round the corner, leaving about 190 downhill to the green. 5 iron again, pitched just short and ran up to about 3.5 feet, made the putt. im a 28 handicapper, i avg 6 on this hole so for me this was awesome. i birdied the next hole as well and shot my best round of 23 over.

Played on Friday. On a 145 yard par 3, hit my 8 iron to 1 foot from the hole. Made the birdie, first one of the year! Memorable since the rest of the round was pretty forgettable.

Made an 8 footer for eagle and a mess of skins after seeing 2 birdie putts go down.

Was a 375 slight downhill HUGE dogleg right. I normally take a 3 iron with a draw. Hit it OB. Hit a decent drive the next time and was left with 120 (roll from downhill). Hit a normal 9 iron. Hit the green, bounced once into the hole. For PAR! :(

Under trees to the right, about 150 yds out cross wind to my right I have to slice to hit the green. I set up Bubba esk as taught by Breed on the golf fix monday and proceed to hit a major slice to stick the green.

Chipped in from 25 feet for birdie from the back of the green on a par 5. My pitch was from a slightly awkward angle in the rough and I rolled it about 4 feet off the back of the green.

Hit a horrible 7 iron off the tee on 167 yard par 3. Stuck behind a huge tree blocking the pin and a fair amount of the green. Duffed that shot, but brought it to the side of the tree where at least I could see the pin.  Chipped in from there to save par (25-30ft chip in)! Ended up being the best part of the round, the rest was pretty bad.

I sunk two (2) 25-30 ft short sided flop shots with a completely open 58° wedge - one was from an elevated peak, other was well below the green.      Luckiest shots I've ever hit.    Amazing to see a high lofted fairly long range flop shot go in (not once, but twice in 2 outings !!).

it was cold....I hit a great drive into a cold wind on a 500yd par five.  The fairways were wet...no roll.

I had 227yds to go from the middle of the fairway, it was early in the morning, it was cold, the hole played directly into the wind, and a huge/deep ditch fronts the green.   The shot was majestic....the ball landed like a beanbag 8 feet from the hole and I missed the eagle putt....LOL   It would have been my 3rd eagle of 2012...I REAAALLY wanted to make that putt!!

Funny sidenote....

I had a similar yardage this morning....it was cold, I was into the wind again....but the ball was sitting nicely in the rough.....9 out of 10 times, I'd lay up under these tough/cold/breezy conditions from the rough, but I still had fresh memories of the great shot from the fairway the day before and decided to give it a go.  I had just failed to get up and down from a greenside bunker on 17 to make bogey...so I thought.....I will make birdie on 18!!  I hit it well, but it came out a bit soft from the rough, it fluttered high in the wind, and dropped right in the middle of a 10ft deep ditch. LOL......I made bogey 6.  Oh well......  I finished bogey-bogey today to shoot 76. I should have laid up......LOL

My best shot was a knock down 6 from the pine straw.  I was 180 out and needed to keep it beneath some branches.  Stuck it 10 feet from the pin.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
