Apparently May is a busier month than I thought, but as I said make plans and I will try to fit it in.

I'm out the first week of May, and out on May 15, May 26, and May 31 unless it was a relatively early tee time on those days.

May 18th or 19th are the only available dates for me. Personally, I like the idea of doing it on a Friday (the 19th, perhaps) to kick off my weekend.

Who would be able to make a Friday, May 19, date?  Figure late morning to allow some travel time?

One of the group is working on compiling some courses and cost estimates but if we tentatively pick a date we can work the day into our calendars.

Not I, unfortunately. And fortunately, too, because…

May sucks mostly for that. I'll be gone the whole middle.

I shouldn't have any problem taking that day off. Cant' be 100% sure, but very likely.

Count me in for now (barring a work issue) - although honestly I can likely work part of the day, as all of those courses are within 20 minutes of the office.

Alert, I like to smoke cigars when I play. But if anyone in my group is sensitive to smoking I will not smoke.

I'll be in your group, I like to smoke cigars while playing.

Doesn't bother me in the least.

You guys all seem pretty good. I'll struggle to break 100 on an unfamiliar course, but have no problem keeping up with pace of play.

I played Eagle Eye last year, it's beautiful and difficult. I wouldn't mind saving $26 and playing Hawk Hollow which is a well maintained track.

I purchased a group golfer voucher for Timber Ridge for $25.   It's a nice course.

Just checked groupon.com.  They have a deal for "18-Hole Round of Golf with Cart for Four: Valid any time during the week. Valid starting at 1pm, Saturday and Sundays.  Promotional value expires Oct 15, 2017. Amount paid never expires. Limit 2 per person."  Price is $99 for four golfers, $55 for two.  With eight golfers it is a better deal than the senior rate (55yrs.+) of $29.  Web address for College Fields is https://www.collegefields.net/.

@MSchott we are in the middle of an attempt to organize an outing in the Lansing area. Review the thread and let us know if you may be interested.

Thank you. When you have some firm dates lined up, let me know and I will see if I can make it. As you know there are a number of fine courses in the area. I like Forest Akers West and College Fields. I haven't played Timber Ridge in 25 years but I remember it being quite nice.

We may have stumbled upon another member and I sent him a pm just now, @ignatiuswriter

Right now I am leaning toward College Fields on May 19. Cost and the fact that I have not played there (yes, a bit selfish but that's life ;-))

@tlazzol pointed out the Groupon deal, which we can use for 4, 6 or 8 players.  If we have an odd number, one of us can sign up as a senior.  The average cost per member would be $25 to $28.

I can purchase the Groupon deal(s) once we have a tentative head count.  If someone can't make it, I will have plenty of time to use the deals later this year.

A tee time around 10 am should give all of us some time to drive and somewhat avoid rush hour.  Or do you think 11 am is better?

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
