That was great fun! Thanks for inviting us. My son and I had a blast.

Thanks for being a great partner, Drew @Golfingdad. Wished I could have played better. The quad and triple didn't help our score much. :yucky:

Great day today guys!  It was good to see some of you guys I haven't seen in awhile - @Lihu, @Shindig, as well as meeting some new people, @spider and @chilepepper.  We should try to get back to having these more often again. :)

Congratulations to @Big C and Kaili for winning the team competition, and to Colin especially for his stellar 5 birdie even par round!!!  Well done.

Lastly, big thank you to @mvmac for providing some prizes for the winners and an alignment stick for each of us participants! :)

Great seeing everyone and getting to play with @Shindig and @spider. And congrats to @Big C on the great score!

Couple videos of some nice par 3's at Goose Creek. The course was in great shape and always fun to play.

Perfect timing (for me) on the video ... one of my best shots today. :). (4 iron from 206 to 20' or so in a strong right to left crosswind)

I had a great time out there. It was nice to have one of these again. We need to do this again soon, and hopefully with a larger turnout.

I could not help but notice, but from the cursory glance at the threads, it appears that this outing was more successful than the two recent ones attempted.  Are there any particular reasons why this was so?   Perhaps it just looked more like a sanctioned TST event, more formal, prizes e.t.c.  as opposed to just a few guys/gal getting together.

The little impromptu gatherings are fine by me, I am just curious in the event that some day I might jump in and organize something. (That is NOT a volunteer mind you).

PM @Shindig, his namesake explains it all (as in "He really knows how to hold a nice . . ." ). :-)

They are fun because people enjoy just playing golf. Most of the "buddy group" in So. Cal. already play together and it makes for a nice core group of serious golfers who like seeing people and putting a face to the golfing posts. We should hold them once a quarter.

I'd join more of them now that my kids are "adults" and would actually consider practicing a bit before going to subsequent ones. :-D

Just joined this site, and I guess I just missed this one, but would like to be added to the list for the next socal outing, and up for anyone trying to fill a foursome anywhere in socal. Thanks!

    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
    • Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.
