Hi everybody,

Our Socal group has gone through a bit of a rut since the good old days of our large quarterly outings and I think it's time we change that.  @tristanhilton85, @Big C, @mvmac, and myself have gone through the trouble of taking care of all of the initial planning stages for this outing so we can skip right to the fun part of finalizing everything.

We've already narrowed it down to two Sundays that all four of us are available; Sunday April 23rd and Sunday April 30th.  We also all agree on Goose Creek as the location. (Although, it's not a 100% guarantee yet on the off chance they're booked with a tournament for the day or something.  If we can't book it, then we'll go with one of the other courses in the general area - Eagle Glen, Oak Quarry, Morongo, wherever.)  As long as Goose is available, though, that's our course.

So if you are interested, post here with which Sunday you're available, and we'll figure out which works best for the group and go from there.  I think by then our crazy wet season will be over and everybody will be itching to play and we'll get a good turnout. :)

Tagging all I can think of off the top of my head.  If you know of anybody I missed, please post and tag them.  Thanks!

Drew, sounds good - thanks for posting. Yes, I should be available either date, with a slight preference for the 30th.

Tagging @bplewis24 in case he is still around.

I am tentatively in for the 30th. What would the format be? Flighted?  I have no official HC, but do have a calculated running one on a spreadsheet. .  and possibly add my daughter (age 52). No HC established.

I've been pretty bad lately about both being here on TST, practicing golf (haven't done any real practice since October... that's going to be an awkward next evolvr lesson since I think I left it as "I'll be practicing in Fall"), or playing (haven't played since Thanksgiving ... and that was my sole round since early October).

But I'll commit to being there and having practiced going in.  If it's April 23 or 30, I don't have a preference at the moment, but I'll commit to both.

Thanks to @Hacker James for tagging @spider -- maybe everyone from the last outing can make it to this one too.  That was a great group to play with.  Come to think of it, all the outings had a good group to play with.  I'm excited for this one.

Looking forward to getting a good group out there like we used to. Hopefully at least three, if not four, groups out there.

For those who haven't attended one of these before, in the past we've done a modified Stableford type scoring, although the last few that hasn't happened because it was only one group.

Anyways, this sounds like fun. Hopefully there will be some new faces out there.

@Patch might be interested. Its not that far a drive noting that his family used to vacation at Sycuan. Heck, I used to ride over to Phoenix just for breakfast in my biker daze.

oh and BTW....any San Diego area folks, I would gladly provide you transportation as long as we could fit the gear in the back of a Prius. There would be only myself and daughter if she wants to go. (she is in Vegas this weekend, and I do not wish to disturb her).

Mike, everybody that has posted so far has either said both dates work or that they prefer the 30th ... so maybe we just go with the 30th, do you agree?

If so, can you edit my title?

Goose Creek is also a great choice, so perhaps we can get rid of the "or nearby" as well?

Let's not change that for now. Even if we're all agreed to it, its too far out to know for sure that the course isn't hosting a tournament or something like that. It'll be in that general area though.

Right.  It's as definite as we can be at this point.  I'm gonna be there next Saturday so I'll ask about their group booking policy and see if they have a schedule that far out yet as well.

As long as they're open that day, they will be our hosts. :)

good deal. Keeping to specifics should result in more participation, leaving not too much leeway. Either they can make it, or not.

That was precisely my original thought.  Starting the thread from too vague a standpoint ends up with us spinning our wheels for weeks and never being able to find a date.

And since we already seem to have good interest, I'll start the list.  Anybody who becomes available, copy and paste the list into a new post and add your name.

  2. @tristanhilton85

Already at two + foursomes!  Hopefully we can get to 16 or 20 this time around like the good old days.    All adult friends and family, even if they are not TST members (yet ;-)) are welcome.

    • Day 307: about a 1.75 hour practice session. Spent the first bit practicing all types of short game shots. Then went and worked on long game - finding a good feel for swings as well as checking alignment and aim. Need to feel like I’m slightly open for the right aim.
    • Day 23 (23 May 25) - Played Friday scramble as usual - came away with some good thoughts on the green side of things.  It was a day where I was lacking confidence in the wedge game and played a number of them short, however I went back to some of my readings about playing to the “big” side of the green and saw much better long approaches.
    • That is absolutely insane. I’ve never played a 6 hour round before. Once I played a round that took 3:00 for the front nine and I walked off. I was kind of salty about that at the time because the guy in the shop said if I wait 10 minutes to check in, I’d get twilight rates, but what he failed to mention were the three other groups lined up ahead of me doing the exact same thing. Totally not worth the $20 I saved. I played a course once that was kind of the opposite. Despite being built in the 90’s, the contours on the greens were ridiculous and they had to keep the greens fairly long to compensate. It was an awful experience.
    • Asked a friend of mine how his Monday round was at Trull Brook GC.  He said it was awful… took 6 hours and 45 minutes.  He said they went inside to complain afterwards and the course didn’t care.  They told him “it’s bust, nothing we can do about it.”. Can u  imagine??  It’s a short well kept 18 hole course that does shave their greens down so it’s really not fun to play there.  The greens were built back before mowers could cut them that short .He said it was $100 to play as well.
    • I knocked off 2 more holes today.  Shot 78 from blues (6670yds).  Had 4 birdies, 2 of them on holes I hadn't yet birdied this year. Now only 3 more holes to go:  The 2 lowest Hcp holes and a Par-5 (can't believe I haven't taken this one down yet).
