Look at Stenson and Day, higher on the owgr and still MC's and WD's. Thats golf.

I was saying this as a compliment to his mental game, not an insult in any way.

Just based on the eye test, I think most folks who watch him play recognize that he has less God given talent than the likes of Rory, Day, or DJ...

The kid is a straight up gamer and knows how to win.

I agree.  I don't see him as a head case either.

Put me on the side of "not a head case".

He's going through some putter changes right now so I'm attributing some of his struggles to that.  He's still 32nd in strokes gained putting but that's his worst performance since 2013.  He's actually 2nd in strokes gained for approaches to the green.  Off the tee is where he has had his struggles.  Now and in the past.

Has he been a little inconsistent this year?  Sure, but calling him a head case is a bit strong in my opinion.  If you wanted a head case I'd argue that Bubba Watson would be a much better example.  He's now 125th in FedEx Cup points and all the way down to 34th on the OWGR.  Three behind Tommy Fleetwood and five behind Bernd Weisberger.

Bubba... I mean, I know he's a Masters champ, noone can take that away from him. But when I watch his game, I just don't see the talent I see in other golfers. I truly believe he was a flash in the pan, he may have a good weekend every once in a while, but I don't expect much from him.

You sure you don't just have a grudge against Jordan? ;-)

By this time last year: one win, five Top 10s, and two missed cuts. So far this year: one win, five Top 10s, four missed cuts. Two "extra" cuts (besides The Players) around Masters time, so maybe there's something to all of that, maybe not. Either way, he's also won almost $3.5 million so far this year. Headcase or not, the talent is clearly there.

No grudge. Actually a fan but the hot is really hot and well sometimes the cold is...well really cold. It's not like he has super long stretches or that I think he is a bad player at all, just when he gets crossed up, the round tends to worsen instead of getting it figured out.

He has all the talent in the world, plays really great golf but I would love to see him get the driver sorted and sub 10 foot putts figured out.

He set expectations too high by winning 2 majors in his first year.  People called 2016 a down year for him and he still won 2 tournaments, but no majors.  He has never been "really cold" as far as I can tell.  He might have just had some luck his first year and jumped out to a pace nobody could live up to.

I guess as much as I have tried to make this clear, it is not working, but this is not ongoing thing. There are just times where he gets off the track and can't get back on. Sometimes for a few tournaments and then the next thing you know he wins one or comes damn close to it. He is never not a great player, just that the demons get to him every so often.

I call bs on self taught, never had lesson. He doesn't have a coach, but he didn't just pick up a club and work it out of the dirt. Pretty sure that's just a myth.

Seriously. Literally took me 3 seconds to search google and find this...and it's from Jordan Spieth's web site!

http://www.jordanspiethgolf.com/news/pga-of-america-name-cameron-mccormick-as-2015-pga-teacher-of-the-year

From the article:

For the past nine years, McCormick has worked with second-ranked golfer Jordan Spieth, winner of the 2015 Masters and U.S. Open, as his exclusive instructor in all aspects of the game. With Spieth’s mounting success this year, the golfer has given much of the credit to McCormick.

“I have complete trust in anything he says, he’s my swing coach, putting coach, short game coach, mental coach, everything,” said Spieth.

Can't agree with anyone who thinks Spieth is a "head case" - he is anything but. Listen to him speak - he talks with amazing maturity which belies his age. In fact, I think it's his strength - he out-thinks the competition with amazing clarity & staying in the moment.

Now does he OVERthink sometimes? Maybe. But that's totally different.

Actually I disagree about the talent.  I think he has more talent than most of the PGA players.

But he is truly a head case because he is constantly looking to create shots that are high risk and is rarely rewarded for them.  He seems to always out-think the situation and that leaves him out of position.

Anyone who tries to argue to a rules official that a fire ant is a "burrowing animal" and thus is entitled to relief is, at the least. a head case.

    • Played Musgrove Mill today. 72.3/155. +9 for 15 official holes as 2 holes are closed, and the par 5 16th plays as a converted par 3. We played the first three holes over to finish 18, and parred 1 and2 amped bogeyed 3. The good: hit every fairway. 1 less than normal for the converted par 3, but the second time I have done that this year. My sand wedge approach on 10 after a monster drive hit the pin in the back left corner hit he pin and spun away to 9’, and I missed the putt.   The great: hit 8 GIR and 7 were inside 10’. Needs work: Missed every birdie putt. No lip-outs. Just struggled on fast greens. Three-putted the par-5 9th with the pin on the back tier and jut missed hitting my approach to the proper level and it spun all the way to the front of the green.
