I don't really see anything wrong with it, I'd rather see this, than players who don't really care that they made the team. If other players are upset they didn't get selected, use it as drive to play their way onto the team for the next cup. The only people they can blame for not making the team are themselves.

OK, so for a thread about social media w/no social media actually embedded in it, I'm gonna make up for it here. I dunno, maybe I'm too immersed in social media, but these kind of posts are... par for the course. No malicious intent.

I only see instagram and twitter from the golf channel or occasional emails. The best I can do is snapchat. I just don't want to get "everything." Often social media ruins recorded golf tournaments for me so I have blocked out feeds from them too. I saw the pics on the golf channel which is why I couldn't provide much for @Vinsk

And no malicious intent here either, I think its a waste of my life to hang or read everything down the pipe from all the social media avenues.

Sort of off-topic, but the only thing about the Solheim, (and Ryder and Presidents) Cups team pride that I've always found to be a little (for lack of a better word) "unfair," is the fact that the other teams are a collective and don't really have a flag to rally around.  I realize Europe has one, but I dunno, I presume most of these people identify as part of their own country moreso than a European.  And forget about the Presidents Cup.  They can really only chant either "Not USA!  (or Europe) Not USA! (or Europe)" or something like "Everybody else! clap clap clap Everybody else!"

Anyways, I digress.  (Nothing disrespectful by any means)

There have been complaints about not seeing the personalities of LPGA players. Well, you can only emote so much during TRYING TO WIN AN LPGA tournament. Social media is that outlet to see more of the personality of players who have to keep their emotions in check to ahem... cash a check. And you don't have to spend copious amounts of time following them, just do a search on their name if you're curious as to what they're like. You're not gonna see stuff like the video below on Golf Channel. All I did was type Solheim Cup in the search box for the tweets above, I don't follow any players, based on my posts here, I've been focused on car crashes and bicycles. :-P

Social media doesn't have to be a firehose of everything you drink in, but more of a deep dive into people or things you're interested in that traditional media just does not present either because it doesn't bring enough eyeballs or not generic enough for mass consumption.

More Solheim Cup:

I am pretty internet/computer savy but instagram and twitter cannot hold my attention for more than 30 seconds. Plus I don't have interest in following any "stars" or what they are doing, but obviously there is a nitch for this, I just don't feel it.

...I can't understand why anyone would interpret someone's outward jubilation at an accomplishment as being disrespectful to anyone else.

People who believe that everyone should get a trophy just for showing up would find this offensive. A related idea: competition is bad.

Some call it the Millennial Disease.

Gee! These women are proud an happy to represent their country in the Solheim Cup and choose to express that on social media! What rotten bitches they must be!

I notice that you are from New Hampshire, so I suspect you may be a member of the PC vanguard! My suggestion to you would be to get over it and grow the hell up!

I also think your post tells more about you than the women on the Solheim Cup team!

Eek!  Did we read the same OP?  It was half tongue in cheek and pretty light hearted overall.  I doubt he is "under" anything to the point he needs to get over it - he just asked the question.

Exactly. Part observation, part devil's advocate... I guess I prefer a more modest approach. Appreciate that most of the golfers want to play for their country even though not everyone can or deserves a trophy.

It is nice to see some of the women excited about the coming event. If this gets both teams some well deserved attention, it is great.

I have never even looked at Twitter or Instagram.  I'm on Facebook solely to keep up with family and friends who use it.  I generally despise most social media outlets.

In print it can sometimes be difficult to interpret tongue in cheek and light heartedness. Particularly when words like "poor taste" and "annoying" are thrown around. And the big "smiley face" at the end can be interpreted as a calculated "anti-snark" device! Considering what the last sentence was.

And yes, I am an old man and my post does say a lot about me. Thank you for noticing. It just seems that I'm living in a world I no longer understand! Why are so many determined to rip America to shreds these days? Stuff like that does indeed pluck a nerve with me!

I realize I'm swerving close to violating the TOS, so I'll shut up now.

If I went over the line and offended you wrongly, I do apologize. If I offended you rightly, then I do not!

BTW, I have no use for social media either. Not even Facebook! I don't own a "mobile device". I have a flip phone, that's how old I am!

No such thing occurred here.
