Interesting! I don't know when the clock starts though.  I look forward to seeing the results of how this goes.

Should be very interesting to see how this works out. I wish we could institute this in our association tournaments at my home course!

I love the idea, but yeah, lots of details have to be worked out. Another article about it here: https://www.golfdigest.com/story/the-european-tour-will-try-out-a-shot-clock-in-2018-to-address-slow-play

The shot clock will be used in the Austrian Open, not the Australian Open. Possible point of confusion: An Australian newspaper was one of the first outlets to put the story online.

And, I likewise want to know when the shot clock begins.

You wouldn't be the first one, right?  (This thread is just asking for this clip, how could I not ;)):

A referee will follow every group and players will be allowed 40 seconds to play their respective shots. If players fail to hit their shot within that 40-second allotment, they will be given a warning for the first offense and then be assessed an immediate 1-stroke penalty for every offense thereafter.

Officials believe that by installing a 40-second shot clock, rounds will speed up by 45 minutes.

Wow. I just wish we didn't have to wait until June to see how this works out…

It will prove interesting.   I'm sure there will be exceptions especially when they bring in an official to look at a situation.  It shouldn't be necessary but I'm glad they are addressing slow play.
