Day 14 July 9, 2018

I worked on full swings today. I focused on weight transfer and getting my hands ahead of the ball at impact.

Day 38.  Working from home this afternoon, I took periodic breaks that included medicine ball drill and practicing positions with my swing on an at-home mat (no ball contact).  There were several 5-minute periods within this.

Day 24, July 10

Mid-year league tournament today at a course I've never played. Could be tough. That being said, I won last's year Mid-Year on a course I never played wearing a brace on my knee. So there's hope! 😛

Day 190

Played 9 holes this morning. It was cart path only, due to last night's rain. (1"+) So, with that rule in effect, I took my trolley for a 3400 +/- yard spin

Conditions were still quite wet. I used quite a few, choked down,  metal woods in place of irons. Metal woods tend to slide easier on the wet turf. Irons might dig in too much.

Focus was on easy tempo swing, and crisp ball contact.

My swings with the metal woods were anywhere from full, to quarter, depending on the distance needed. Several second shots were of the punch shot variety. Other, shorter, approach shots were of the bump, and run variety.

Once on the greens, I had to deal with slower, rolling conditions. Luckily my current putter handles slower conditions quite well. Just needed to use a little longer back swing to make up the distances.

Shot a 42, which was a good score considering the playing conditions. If the temps stay low, I might go back out this afternoon, and play the back nine.

Day 69:

Well I went to the practice green today to work on my sand shots, but the bunker was still flooded out so I played 18 holes of short game golf instead. 3 Pars, 3 Doubles, and 1 hole out for birdie! that was nice. -2 bogey golf. 22% scrambling rate.

Day 6:

Morning stretch reminded me I was a bit stiff from yesterday, but it soon was good.  Extra emphasis on the hip rotation.  Goal was to focus today ONLY on hits off the ground, so driver got a day off. 10 strokes per club, minimum, with a rule that I could not go to a new club if the last hit were less than good.  Mainly on line with good distance.  Mis-shots today were mainly a little left.

I di have most of my difficulty today with my 56 wedge.  Good height, rolled or stopped as I was working for.  However, shots were almost uniformly 5' to the left of where I thought my target line was.  Will have to try to figure out my problem at tomorrow's session

Day 15 July 10, 2018

I worked on putting today. It rained most of the day here so outside work was out of the question. I worked on 3’, 6, and 10’ putts. I would putt three balls from each station. Then repeat the drill again.

Day 39.  Practiced 90 minutes after work.  60 minutes range;  mat, range balls, 30 of them.  Funny thing, my latest evolvr lesson involved hitting the ground in such a way and a warning that I'd take up a bit of dirt each time.  I don't think I quite got it the first few times... or at least it didn't click.  Today, on mats, I think it clicked.  Or maybe it just worked on the mats.  Let's see how I strike it tomorrow when I play.  The other 30 minutes were putting, no drills, just a bunch of 6', 10' and 30' putts.  Wanted to do the Broadie 10' 10 points drill, but the open putting green was not amenable to it.  I also wanted to go get a level and measure the grade at the practice cup positions... there were maybe 3 that resembled a reasonable place to put a cup on the green and the other practice green (this course has four, two open at a time) was occupied with a camp.  Oh well, I think I still got good practice in.

    • Day 1: After a long practice layoff due to injury, vacation, winter darkness, and work stuff, I'm trying to start back up again. Today I just hit balls with keys from my lesson 6-ish weeks ago; neutral grip and centered turn. Gonna work with that for a few weeks, see how it goes, and then get a lesson scheduled.
    • It’s not live on free to air tv in the UK, and hasn’t been since 1995. ( I pay a subscription to Sky for generally good golf coverage). There are limited highlights on the BBC for some golf events, but that’s it. Are other/all PGA events on NBC?  Allowing ticket scalping is a systemic failure across sports and showbiz, which could be legislated against, but in the UK is not in any meaningful way. I don’t know much about the secondary market in the US or anti scalping measures.  Charging more to keep prices down is an interesting concept, in practice no doubt you are right even if It sounds a bit Catch 22  Do you think sports tickets and broadcast rights  should be sold on a purely capitalist basis, or is there an argument to say that some sports might benefit more from wider exposure and affordable access. ( golf in the US is apparently not one of these if tickets sold out at those prices so quickly)  Fans might benefit from cheaper tickets and in the UK at least, TV coverage that reaches a wider audience.
