Foam roller and ball massage work according to this speed workout I’m starting.

25 reps. Stretching hamstrings. Working on slow movements through transition. Tai Chi slow with weight shift incorporated into movement. Also keeping the lead wrist well pronated.

Working on the stretch-contraction at the top. Trying to get the spring like feel at the top and retain it as long as possible.

My range session yesterday consisted of me hitting my usual targets with my driver, then I got “lazy” and let my turn go all the way back to the point of stretching all the torso muscles then didn’t release it until almost after impact. That shot went way faster than any shot I made consciously. Was teed up low so it hit the back fence at the long part of my range. Only did that a few times in the past. Tried recreating that shot 3 more times and almost got it one more time. Then had to leave.

I let this simmer and came up with the reason why X-factor is such a big deal and the “coiled up like a spring” are descriptors of a good Swing. My partner told me that recruiting muscles in such a manner can get a lot more power.

Prior to this my conscious thought was to bring it back to the farthest I can go relaxed and start the downswing. Wrong way!

So, I’ll be spending the rest of my time trying to optimize this sequencing to get my maximum power at impact. Expecting it to take a long time.

On the driving range getting some warm up swings in. Have a tee time in a little while, on a quality course.

Just swinging the clubs, looking for good contact. Playing days are not practice days for me. Just going to enjoy the next few hours in spite of the weather. :-)

2/2/18:

Day 308:

Continued work on the path drill with the soda bottles today. Mostly 9-irons, some 6-irons, and a couple 3-irons. Did this drill for 10-15 minutes without hitting the bottles. Stuffed animals work well too if they're the right size.

only 57 days to 1 full year... But hell I'm on a super streak. @iacas we need double bold or a gold "5 Minutes Daily" badge or something when someone hits 365 consecutive days. (Or 338 out of 339 of 365 under the new rules of the challenge.)

Day 2 of February Challenge     Spent 2 hours on the range, doing the Technical Drills from the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy workbook.. focusing on P3 as well as P4.  Then played 9 holes  --  shot 2 over par. A couple of missed short wedges killed me or I would have been under par.   Finally an hour on the putting green continuing the 10,000 putt challenge.  Made putts from 3 and 5 feet today.

No such thing. It's just an ongoing challenge: 26 of the last 28 days. When you start doesn't matter.

Day 2

played on the course and took mulligan on my bad shots. had to take most mulligan for drives and approach shots with wedges. My feel is slowly coming back, I am hitting a little weaker then I usually do, but after a 3 weeks of no exercise and stuffing my face on vacation I am really paying for it now. stamina isn't up to par, and will be working on cardio as well.

Day 34. Again my post didn't register yesterday. I know I hit the submit button, and the screen even moved. Must be a dink in this old Android I am using.

Anyways with a 10 am tee time, I am on the range working with my 5w. I let myself down with it a couple of times yesterday. Not a surprise since it is the club I have the least confidence in. Occassional fat shots are the problem.

So, with a nice easy swing, while maintaining my posture,  not dipping my left shoulder, and making a decent weight shift, I hope to remedy my 5w issue.

Power walk with wife 2 miles uphill then 2 down. Starting to outgrow our neighborhood walk. We’re discussing going up Eaton Canyon or Mount Wilson.

Using a roller to work the muscles in the flutes and calves. Speeds up rocovery time to 1 day.

Day 1: I should actually start.

I spent 15 minutes, five of which was spent playing with The Hanger on my piece (I like it, but not necessarily for the thing it's built to do specifically, but something I'll talk about in my review), during which time I hit 10 balls, maybe? Could have been 8, could have been 11.

I've practiced several days in a row prior to today, but no backdating. :-)

Day 3   Played in an 18 hole scramble this morning.  Our team shot 60 which was out of the money.  However, I won closest to the hole on the 152 yard 10th hole with a shot to 2 feet.  No one else in the 100 plus person scramble bested me!!  YEAH!!

Then I went to the putting green to continue the 10,000 putt challenge.  I made 100 putts from both 3 and 5 feet.  Working on seeing the ball go into the hole, and balance at address.

Day 5:

2/2/18

used weighted small club in my living room with mirror, slow swings working on making a full turn with good weight transfer. Probably about 30 min.

Since I have been working on making a full turn, for some reason I stopped transferring weight.  Need to get the feeling of both of those things happening together.

    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
