The fairways are about 30 yards wide at the maximum, and if you miss the fairway, you'll often find yourself in water. Basically every miss is going to be punished, which isn't enjoyable golf. For PGA Tour pros, it means that everybody plays the course in exactly the same way. Everybody is playing the same clubs off the tee to the same spot. There's no decision to make.

Think about the memorable holes. The bear trap is the most memorable section of the course, but that's only because it's difficult. 2 medium length par 3s over water with no room to miss and make par. Bleh. I don't really mind 16 as much, but it's still a boring hole. Other than those 3 holes, the only other memorable hole is 18. But when the memorable holes are memorable because they're extremely hard, it's not a good course.

For what it's worth, I don't mind when there's really tough holes. Not every hole need to be a gimme par or a great birdie chance. I think there should be hard holes mixed in, but PGA National is just entirely hard hole after hard hole.

Good points.  I hadn’t thought very much about this - in fact I sort of considered it a good course without much consideration just because of the way the announcers talk about it.

But you’re right ... a lot of risk with little reward.

Wow you guys got high standards for Tiger. Considering his long absense and the way he was spreading it only a week ago, I give him an A.

Tiger’s allready showing enough form to consider him winning again, that is huge.

Tiger gains points for:

• Clubhead speed.
• Scoring in round 3 with his ballstriking. No putts were going in at all.
• Top 15 finish.
• Tee shots. Some were just smoked.

Tiger loses points for:

• Bailing out so often - well left on 15 and 17 on Saturday
• Still not taking advantage of the par fives.
• Holes 15 and 16.
• Tee shots. Some were still pretty bad. Nowhere near as bad as Torrey or even Riviera.

Compared against Tiger in his prime… B. But from what he can/should expect now, it's barely into the A range with an A-.

Sounds about right to me.  :)

I'm agreeing with you:  He looks great.

I want to contrast that from the last couple years where the polls were about him be able to FINISH 4 rounds without having to go get another surgery.

Thomas' reaction was kind of ironic, since he had a spectator removed for yelling "Get in the bunker!" well after his ball got up in the air. I'm not saying that was a great thing to say, but was it worse then what Justin said? As far as CBS repeating it several times, I wouldn't want to be one of those guys in the production truck today...

I heard that too. Not a great thing to say, but if it was after the swing (which I think it was), it did not deserve that reaction from JT. It wasn't a personal attack, wasn't cursing. Sorry JT, not everyone in the world roots for you. Definitely made me lose respect for him. Very douche-baggy.

Thomas won, but Luke List looks to have a promising career.

Thomas is 4 inches shorter and 40 pounds lighter than LL, but was past him on not a few tee shots, looking at the PGA Tour shot tracker.

negative comments before and after the swing - there is no place for these idiots in this game.  kick them out.  Maybe he'll grow up and next time act like he's on a golf course.

I like players that show emotion. I'm not offended by the word. Sidney Crosby will yell "**** yeah!" after he scores a goal. NFL players yell it. Whatever.

It's just a word. Give it power if you want, but you're the one giving it power.

Sorry, but I disagree. People talk a lot about golf being "different" then other sports. Maybe I'm wrong here, and would be willing to give him a pass if, let's say he dunked a 9 iron or a wedge shot into the hole for the win. But he's Justin Thomas. He's been there before. Plus, he had plenty of time waiting on the green before he ever got to hit the putt. It didn't come off to me as though making the putt shocked him, and he just blurted out his words. It seemed more like Defiance to me. An "in your face" type of thing.

I doubt he was "MAKING A STATEMENT" (TM).  Just excited about another win on a tough track.

I appreciate your view on this, it's a bit silly to claim he didn't think there wouldn't be cameras or microphones on him.  His apology was well stated and I think that's an end to it for me (I didn't even think that's warranted, but for those that do, it should be enough).  I'm happy to see the passion even.  He'll do better.  This is still just a kid learning and he seems to me to be a good representative.  I'll just have to disagree for that part you thought he was petualant waiting on the other player - I just didn't see anything other than professionalism there.

I do want to point out I think it is a completely unrelated topic versus spectators being classless/disruptive idiots that need to be ejected frequently until a standard is set.  I'll discuss one or the other, but I refuse to be boxed in and treat this as an either/or type discussion.

It seemed like he was excited to win a big tournament on a grueling track.

Again, I'm against robots, and all for emotion.

Tiger Woods fist pumps, but also curses and occasionally chucks a club toward the bag. I like both sides of that coin.

I appreciate the feedback guys. I don't mean to come off like I'm above this type of behavior, and I get, and like, the emotion involved in the heat of competition. I played 2 sports at a fairly high level when I was younger, and my inability to do so on a golf course has led to let's say an "expansion of my vocabulary" at times. Oh well, I hope you're right, Rehnwar about Justin learning from a "blip" like this. And Iacas, I like to see emotion also. when I coached girls AAU basketball, I would use the term, "show some Grrr out there".  Anyway, I've said my piece, it's time for me to get over it, I guess.

I'm sorry, but words do matter. Just because Crosby uses that word, I wouldn't want my son to use it. There are words referring to race and gender that are unacceptable under any circumstances, no matter who gives them power.
