Actually, basically the same rules, it is worth remembering the ethics of golfers - Do not touch your ball, Play only with your ball, In most cases you can play from another hole, Use only five minutes to search for the ball, Play only from the field limits - it's not so important that it's a cruise)

This has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this thread... :offtopic:

I also am curious to hear thoughts of golf/cruise recommendations. I've golfed in Punta Cana once and would love to get back down in the Caribbean plus the wife wants to do a cruise.

I golfed in Aruba on my honeymoon. It wasn’t a cruise for us, however, it is a cruise destination. They have a championship course that is well touted at the northern tip of the island. They have another course (Links at Divi Aruba) that is less expensive and much easier to get onto. It’s only 9 holes but it’s a solid golf experience and a nice grill to eat at afterwards.

We did a NYC to Dover, a couple years ago. There was an LPGA pro who did daily lessons, plus set up a group tee time in Ireland. There was around 20 of us each day, with 2 practice cages, plus a putting green. It was US Open week and she got the ship to show the Sunday round live on the big screen in the theater.

Plus we arranged rounds in Bar Harbor, Iceland and a couple in Scotland after the cruise. The ship had decent Taylor Made clubs that we borrowed for each game. We could have golfed more but did a few other things in some ports.

Here's my idea of a cruise with golf:

I was afraid to look at the prices.

Did you see the itinerary?   You get to see the last day of the Open!

Three of the courses on our itinerary are ranked among the top 25 in the world and all are in the top 100. This is one of the most impressive lineups of golf to be found on any tour of the British Isles. Our ship’s easy access to these otherwise hard-to reach links means you can play this impressive range of courses without the hassles of packing, unpacking and changing hotels. July 23 — Kingsbarns Golf Links (#65) July 24 — Trump International (#48) July 25 — Cruden Bay (#77) July 26 — Castle Stuart (#69) July 27 — Royal Dornoch (#14) July 29 — Royal Portrush (#15) July 30 — Royal County Down (#5)

Come on guys...pony up!

My biggest problem is that my wife would insist on going and playing too.  So its not merely $12,000, its $24,000  :scared:

Having worked on the ocean for 20 years I really enjoy having my feet up and relaxing while on the Big Blue. My old company was a vendor for Crystal so we had been able to enjoy very good prices, like $4k total for 2 weeks in the Med. Also we wait for the deals because we prefer Seaborn or Crystal. Right now we are keeping our eye on Australia/New Zealand and yes we will bring our own clubs.

Have Fun

Looking at the ship, I would pass.

We did 3 weeks on land and didn’t hit all those, but we played where we wanted.

When Crystal visits Edinburgh it’s during the summer tattoo, it’s a big deal amount Crystal regulars. Since it’s at night, you can alwaysgolf nearby.

I've done this a couple of times. First time was on a Caribbean cruise and I played on St. Thomas in the USVI. The course was called Mahogany Run, it was a short-ish course but was hilly & had tremendous views, with a few holes right on the cliffs overlooking the sea. The course condition was not up to US standards however. They had no irrigation on the course and very little maintenance (mowers). Therefore, during rainy season the course was green & lush but the grass was high, during dry season the opposite. When I played the course was green but the grass on the greens was literally about 1 inch high, putting was pretty much useless. Despite this I enjoyed the course (vacation in the Caribbean, playing golf, so I was in heaven) and would play it again because it is still the most beautiful place i've ever played golf.

Second time was a cruise that stopped in Jamaica and I played a course called White Witch, it was on one of the episodes of Shell's World of Golf (Hal Sutton vs Notah Begay). This is a Ritz Carlton resort course (von Hagge architect). Course was pretty and had lots of elevation changes, condition was much like top US courses but was not right by the sea so views were not as dramatic. Part of playing this course was requiring a fore caddie with your group, they mostly would go ahead a couple hundred yards on driving holes & track your ball. Both of these courses are jungle not far off fairways - hit it there, its gone. I enjoyed this course as well and would play again. Another note - while the temps were in the 80s when I played these courses, the tropical climate (high humidity) really zapped my strength. Be sure to have plenty of water on hand and stay hydrated, im from Texas and play in 100 degree temps no problem (with little humidity), but I was dragging the last few holes at White Witch in 80 degree weather.

How did you do on The Devil’s Triangle? We played there in February 2009 and the greens were closely mown and fast?

I think I played that stretch even par. I hit it within 10 feet on the short par 3 right on the cliffs.

Good info. What was the cost to golf at Mahogany Run?

I hit it too far in the fairway on the first of the three into the brush. The cliff hole I did ok with a chip and one putt. The third of the three wasn't bad.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
