I'm not a big fan of Hicks either. I like Johnny Miller,  Feherty (I've always liked David), and Bones is awesome... Hicks is just a meh host. Better than Joe Buck though.

What do you think of Tirico? Seems NBC might try to push Hicks out the door and slide Tirico into that spot.

I like him more than Hicks for sure. Will never forget Tirico's call on the Van De Velde choke at the Open. "He hit it in the burn!!!!!" LOL

NBC has the Open now too and Tirico called it for many years for ABC/ESPN. Would not be a bad move to slide him into that spot.

My favorite was when he called Tiger and Ernie both making eagle on the 72nd hole at Kapulua in 2000.

My memory about this is sketchy, but I remember a duel between Ernie and Tiger at the Presidents Cup where that happened. I don't remember it being at Kapalua. I'm probably wrong though. I'm not quite the golf historian some others here claim to be. LOL

They are both true. 2000 Tournament of Champions in January at Kapalua. Great battle between them down the stretch with some awesome shots on the par 5's by both guys.

Then the 2003 Presidents Cup in South Africa. Same deal. Both guys played their guts out. They ended up in a playoff to decide the Cup. Both guys made very clutch putts to tie each other and Nicklaus/Player decided to share the Cup because it was dark and nobody wanted to come back the next day to play more matches.

Yeah, 2003 is the one I remember. Amazing finish, I remember Ernie making a really clutch putt in the darkness on their final hole that evening which became the final one of the event. Unbelievable drama, and the decision by the Captains made it feel really good to be a fan of the game.

Ernie was maybe 8 feet. Tiger was about 15 feet and seemed in trouble. Both very clutch.

Tiger is too far back in my opinion. He is a great front runner and won a lot where the competition up on the leaderboard folded up like a cheap tent. He would need a 64 today in my opinion which will be tough to do hitting longer irons into the greens with his conservative approach. Guys don't fold up anymore and someone will shoot up the board early.

Foolish to even think todays players would fold. Compared to those back in Tigers heyday, todays players are much better. They're better athletes, better golfers, and there are more of them. If Justin Thomas played back then, he'd probably have 25 majors.

I don't think he will win because his ballstriking is not good enough right now. His iron shots into the greens are too far from the pins to help him shoot a super low round. As far as the frontrunner stuff goes, he has won over 25 tournaments on Tour when not leading after 54 holes. That's arguably a Hall of Fame career by itself.

Throw in that they beat up on him for the past few years and are much more experienced playing high pressure tournaments since they basically picked up a club. Tiger gets to see what he created first hand now which is pretty cool.

Now extrapolate that back to Jack's day.

Except that it is out of bounds, because there is zero evidence that the gym hurts your ability to play well. Not to mention that Rory didn’t play or practice much last off-season, and that the stats show exactly what his problem is. There is evidence for rust, fatigue, and poor skills, not for being in the gym too much.

Also: Rory had a degenerative spine condition. Being in the gym is kind of a prerequisite for him.

Well that isn’t a provable thing one way or the other so there is never going to be ‘evidence’ beyond antecdotal. My $0.02 is that gym work is certainly a good thing from a lean muscle and flexibility standpoint- think DJ. The bulk that Rory has put on hasn’t done anything positive for his golf game IMO...whether it’s hurt his game, I have no idea.

Damn if Tiger's approach shots get sharpened, it's going to be fun to watch.

    • Day 53. Played 9. Couldn’t find the bottom of the swing arc. It was bad.
    • Awesome, thank you very much. I ended up giving them a call and you are right. Got to try out some different clubs, the first suggestion was the Wilson Staff Launch Pad irons I believe, the hybrid irons. Personally I wasn't liking them all too much, however they were much better than the old '74 MacGregor blades I've been playing. Then I tried a couple others, I forget what the one was but the one I ended up liking the best was the Cobra Aerojet irons. Overall feel and performance was the best for me on these, I also preferred the appearance and sound of these. Bit the bullet.
    • Gooch ended up getting the invite...
    • Live Updates from the range! Open the club face at address, and trust that you’re gonna be able to get the face in a good position at impact. I don’t have to feel like I have to keep the face open throughout the entire downswing. The swing feels much more free-flowing through impact. Difference in ball flight is that previously it would be a low to mid trajectory that starts straight and draw left, or slight pulls. New ball flight are high push draws.  It’s kind of stupid. I feel like it should slice off the planet. I look up and it’s maybe a slight push. 🤣 Some distant wedge feels. More weight on front foot. Keep weight on front foot.  Pivot around left knee. Solid contact all the time.
