I play high school golf and normally shoot mid to low 40s but I feel if I could accurately judge distance and break on putts I'd be able to crack 40. Just need a simple tactic, as the course we play on has a rating of 33.5 and a 115 slope.

Any good ideas, I'll take anything!

Not "tends to". Does.

Theres no mechanical method you can apply to reading putts, IMO. If i were to put a percentage on it, putting is 75% instinct and 25% technique. But that instinct and feel can be honed by practice and experience.

When you hit the practice green before you play, head out to 20 feet or so and just practice getting the ball to go 12 inches past the hole with whatever putting method you use. Don't worry about if they go in or not, just gauge the speed of the green. Feel the rhythm of the stroke and putter in your hands and through the inside of your forearms. Hit 20 of them. Then move in around 10 feet and do the same thing. You want to focus more on line now with speed - you're trying to make a few of these. After that, head into 5 feet or so take 10 more. You're draining all of these or you start over. Its the warmup I've used for years and i consider myself to be a elite putter. It takes 15-20 minutes.

Bull. AimPoint.

I have ten-year-olds that have played golf for a year who can read putts better than guys who have been playing for 40 years.

The easiest and most accurate method is Aimpoint.

Second, third and fourth on AimPoint. It is easy and very accurate. No worrying about Rae's creek or where the water or mountains are. The ball will break downhill, period. Your feet will tell you how much.

This. 2 hours and you'll hardly ever worry about it again.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

What's the best way to find an AimPoint Express clinic?

Reading break might be my worst part of putting. I putt so much better and more confidently in scrambles once I see someone else putt and see the break. I often just putt dead straight in my own rounds because I dont trust myself in making reads.

@iacas I'm assuming you would need a minimum number of people to consider scheduling one correct?

I do one-person clinics. Just come over with George or something sometime.

One thing I have done recently is trying to feel the slope with my feet.   Straddle the line, or stand to one side of your line with your feet perpendicular to the line, and it's amazing, very often your feet can feel the slope better than your eyes can see it.

That's just a part of what Aimpoint is, but Aimpoint also provides a system to process the information you collect through your feet.

Any thoughts on the difference between an in person clinic and the DVD? Obviously more of a chance to ask questions and have hands on with a clinic.

Looks like the DVD is $50, most of the clinics I looked up were $150-200
