Stronger grip (from neutral) to battle flipping?

I'm having a hard time working on Key #3, I still flip with my irons. I've read a couple of posts where a stronger grip (rotated clockwise) helps immediately. I couldn't confirm that on the range yet, but practice swings in my house feel much better, like I don't have to battle the flip.

I feel that I'm flipping because my clubhead is moving too fast for me to hold it back, it just catches up with my hands too fast, if you know what I'm trying to say here.

Nope, not that easy. Nobody would flip if strengthening the grip fixes it.

A practice swing won't tell you much about a real swing.

It can help. Sometimes a weak grip can require flipping to help square the clubface.

But… most likely… you're simply out of sequence. Your hands slow down prematurely, the club overtakes, and you see the flip.

Would you be so kind and check my swing video thread?

Try making half swings with a sand wedge, left hand only on the handle. This will teach you what the left wrist should feel like as you swing through impact. Flipping makes the left wrist bend backward, and that's REALLY HARD TO DO when you swing with the left hand alone.

Now if you swing with both hands on the handle, and the left wrist still feels the same, you won't be flipping.

It's not as simple as that.

I don't see a massive flip there.

Check out this video by @ClayB . Got to give credit because I've never heard of the bow and arrow drill anywhere else.

It works. By moving back, instead of down, it keeps the weight of the club head back so your hands can lead.

But yea grip doesn't matter for lag... and like said below, you must have the sequence down before any of these drills will really help.

FWIW, I get flippy when I rush transition (incomplete turn). I guess and second guess my grip during the round but not where blame lies. Of course as has always happened, I only realize this during the drive back home...😖, only to forget it before the next round begins. Ha.

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
