Watching on TV, the broadcasters did not have a clue on the dispute and coverage was rather bleak on the situation.
JT did play on while the delay occurred and then Beef followed shortly.
The TV view did show interference with "line of play" to the pin location, but he could have played to an area on the green.
I'm assuming the drop which the official indicated didn't suit him.

Sounds like the official was giving him relief, but Lowry may not understand that a tree is not something that you get relief from. If the point of relief from the TV tower is by a tree, then that's where it is because you've gotten away from the TV tower (or whatever).

Sometimes the relief is in a worse spot. Sometimes it's in a better spot.

Maybe Lowry doesn't know the rules.

(Tough to say given it's just his account, too. We don't know much at all about the story.)

Hard to say based on the few comments in the article, but it sounds like he wanted relief from the tree as well. Was he waiting for them to give him a better ruling and ended up hitting since nobody found a way to give relief from the tree he can't get relief from perhaps?

I believe relatively common concurrence and I would have thought a straightforward ruling. Surprised Lowery would have beef with that if he was indeed seeking secondary relief from the tree as well.

That was my impression also.

Of course the 'decision' was his to make not the referee's.
