It's nice if you'd quote a relevant portion.

Essentially, Jordan could miss the Tour Championship by being outside the top 30, and if he does…

Quote

As reported earlier in the week by the Associated Press, without competing in the Tour Championship, Spieth would wind up only playing in 24 PGA Tour events this season, one shy of the requirement for membership under a policy adopted two years ago. The policy states that players can play fewer than 25 events so long as they have added a tournament they have not played in the previous four years, but Spieth did not add a new tournament to his 2018 schedule.

So what, right?

Well…

Quote

No player has violated the policy so far. According to an ESPN report, Spieth could face a fine and a possible suspension should that happen, an awkward situation for the golfer who is also chairman of the PGA Tour Player Advisory Council.

Ouch.

Guess he shouldn't have set his schedule with the assumption he was going to make the Tour Championship.

Or he could have added an event. Maybe one early in the season before major season gets into the swing of things?

I wonder at what point a high ranked golfer thinks things are going south and better make a plan. Like with Spieth...I’m wondering if he was paying attention to the requirement but just kept thinking ‘no way..I’ll definitely  play in the Tour Championship.’ And thanks for presenting the article much better @iacas. I’m on my phone and struggle with that stuff.

I wonder if it even crossed his mind because he's kept the same schedule for a couple of years now with no issue.

Yeah, but that includes making the Tour championship each year to make it on the number, right?

Yea, which brings me back to my first statement. He should have built his schedule safer. Like you said, he could have added an event early.

Poor planning the result of having too much confidence?

Could be. Might be one of those motivational things like he was purposely putting pressure on himself to play well. Or it's entirely possible he never realized how close he was to violating the policy because the problem never came up before now.

I guess we'll never really know, not that the why or how matters as much as the what.

Well maybe this will light whatever fire he needs to get back on track. I'm sure it sucks for these guys to have such a good streak go cold.

Spieth ended up at +3 for the tournament, T55, dropped four spots on the FedEx Cup and is 31st on the list, so no East Lake. Will be interesting to see what they do.

For failing to satisfy the Strength of Field Regulation, Spieth is set to receive either a fine of more than $20,000 or a three-tournament suspension; the Tour will determine which penalty will be assessed.

My guess is they'll fine him and opt not to suspend.

I think that he will also agree to play an additional event or two next season (although that might not get announced)

I think the PGA Tour might be harsher on this than you'd think. If they give Jordan a slap on the wrist for this, it might unwittingly lead to other players doing the same thing. I also doubt he'll be suspended, but I'd bet on a hefty fine. Although, @Wally Fairway's thought is a interesting one.
