Does anyone out there have a Swing Index?

Has anyone seen this Swing Index Ap? I get Golf Magazine and I’ve noticed that there’s this swing index thing in there the last few months where they are analyzing a pro’s swing. This month it’s Rory McElroy. He got 8.9 out of a possible 10 on his swing. Last month Patrick Reed got 7.9 out of 9.9. The month before Ben Hogan got a 9.43 out of a possible 9.9.

Each month there’s this little blurb about “with a little practice you can have a swing index you can be proud of”. Then it encourages you to download the ap. If Rory’s only getting 8.9 I’m not excited to go see what I’ll end up with.

Has anyone out there tried this ap? I’m curious what a “normal” person’s swing index would be. Was “swing index” a real thing before this ap? Do I need both a swing index and a handicap? Why is Rory’s out of a possible 10 and Reed and Hogan’s are out of a possible 9.9?

I have no idea. No idea of what a swing index could possibly be. It sounds theoretical as hell. After all, your golf swing "is" what the golf ball "does"! Do they take results into account? Doesn't sound like it.

You've probably hit the nail on the head. 

 

I'll keep an open mind, if anyone out there does download the app and try this out. I'd be interested to hear about it.

I see what it's trying to do, but a Jim Furyk or Matthew Wolff would crash it and I don't think it can gauge swing pattern matchups, like if you have a strong grip, more rotation, that kind of thing, but maybe something like that that works with decent success is feasible in the future. There are other apps similar to this as well, with sensors that clip on to your person.
