Do the majority of everyone here play golf with a cart?

I have played using one, but prefer to walk the course as it gives me a better balance and feel for the course. i have more time to think about the shots a head. Playing with a cart makes me feel like i'm rushing the course.

Any thoughts?

Way I look at it, it doesn't make any difference. I can only go as fast as the group in front of me, so walk or cart, the pace is usually about the same (my home course tends to be busy every day). I used to think like you, but I've found that it's all in what you get used to. Golf is a game of adjustment and adaptation... riding in a cart is just another adjustment.

I dont play with a cart unless i have to. I cant see one positive to using one unless youre a senior or disabled.

Only use cart if the club demands everyone to use one. Walking is an important part of golf.

walk the majority of the time and play better walking. It gives me time to think through my shot selection and calm down after a poor shot

You make a good point. I abhor waiting too long to play a shot. Too many practice swings, too much time to think. Another reason why I like to walk the course.

irrespective of what I've said, its interesting what DavidFehertysBike mentioned. Is it mandatory to play with a cart at some courses in the states?

I always walk but I do it because I'm cheap and I like the added exercise. The courses I usually play (the muni I'm a member at and another course nearby) are walker friendly, so that does make a big difference. Courses that aren't walker firendly I'll definitely opt for a cart, but that's a very small percentage of the times I play. I don't mind riding in a cart, in fact it's fun, but it takes all of the physicality out of the game. Golf is a very time consuming game and I have a hard time justifying on a regular basis doing something that amounts to little more than walking around in your house and watching TV. That to me is a very close approximation of what playing golf while riding is like. I'm an active person and I just can't see myself being that lazy. But in all honesty at some of the residential and resort courses I've played you pretty much have to ride just to maintain the pace of play. Those are courses where you might have to ride up a 1/4 to even a 1/2 a mile sometimes between holes. Those are also the courses where they won't offer you the option of walking so it's a moot point. Still I suppose you could say that I prefer playing those courses that are walker friendly so that I can get that exercise aspect out of an enjoyable round of golf. That to me is the real payback/benefit. There you are doing something you love, playing golf, and getting a decent amount of exercise without even noticing it! Seems like a no-brainer to me.

There are courses where a cart's necessary - be it policy or layout. I try not to play courses like that.

I also know able bodied people who refuse to play (even the shortest of courses) on foot - it's a status symbol for them - like getting a limo for the prom. Their names are permanently crossed off my list when I'm looking for a fourth.

I prefer walking to a large degree.

Is it mandatory to play with a cart at some courses?

A fairly large number of courses do require it. I am actively seeking out courses that permit walking.

I like to walk but too lazy to carry/pull clubs. The course I usually play is very hilly and I am about 45# overweight. I know a group of 70 year olds who play 9 holes 3-4 times per week and walk. They have invited me to play several times, so I went out and walked 9 one day pulling my clubs. I made it ok, but did not want to play the second 9, LOL. I know, I know, if I would get my lazy butt out and walk 9 a couple times a week, the 45# would go away.

Same here, I like to walk whenever possible, feels more like golf as it should be....

With that being said, I don't mind riding, walking just makes it more affordable.....played in a tourney a few years back at a REALLY nice course....it was 95 degrees in August.....the place had carts with little ac units on the cart that had a tube that shot cold air on your neck....it was primo....only down side was they stopped working by the back nine ;-(

I definitely prefer walking. It feels like a part of the game. You get to think about your next shot, get some forced cool-down time in-between shots (so you don't just play "whack - drive - whack - drive - etc") and you get some actual exercise. Depending how how I feel, I might use my pull cart. I don't mind carrying my own clubs, but carrying them for 18 holes can aggravate my shoulders. I rarely play hilly courses, though, so walking is never a physical challenge. And the courses that mandate use of carts tend to be the more expensive ones (as they're longer and hilly-er), so I rarely come across those.

Bottom line: I definitely prefer to walk over use a cart. No strong feelings on carrying/pulling.

I prefer to walk, but I do use a cart occasionally, particularly when my daughter wants to go with. She has Downs Syndrome and enjoys driving me around. I Love it ... she tells me "Good Shot" no matter how I hit it, and every time I reach for the driver she says "Go Big Dog!"

I have always wanted to walk a course. all the courses in this area only let you walk before/after a certain time on and one is before i wake up and the other is after 3:00 usually. Ugh. One of these days i will def walk a course tho.

Almost all of my rounds are with a cart. I usually golf before work with other coworkers. We try to get the first tee time and zip through the course pretty fast. We're ready golfers that either park halfway between or do the drop off & pick up. Average 3-3.25 hours per round for four of us (depends on the course, some have lots of hazards and woods). Since I'm going to work right after, I don't want to show up all sweaty (sometimes in the summer, it almost can't be helped). I don't need the exercise, since I'm pretty active throughout the week (hoops, gym, etc)... can't necessarily say the same for my coworkers. :) Also, almost all of the discounts we use include the cart for the same or cheaper price than walking.

Dude, Very cool! Nothing better than a loved one showing you love and support on the course!

it' a must. The game is a completely different experience, and one, I'd hope, that you'd find for the better!

I carried my cart bag once. It was hell. Especially in the FL heat and Humidity. My shoulder was sore. I havent tried it yet with a push cart though. I think it would be better. I have free carts at my club till July so I plan on riding until then, then Ill walk 9 after work 3 days a week.
