It's funny that they have lists like this, and then I can go into a local course to me and they will have a page from a magazine that has them ranked in the top 100. But when I look at the list on this link, they are not there. The local course has supposedly been ranked for like the last 3 or 4 years.

Sad...I've only played 1.5 of them out of 100-with the "half" coming via Bay Harbor. It has Links/Quarry as the top and when we were there they had us play Quarry/Preserve. Now I'll be depressed for the rest of the day!

WHAT'S IN MY BAG

At least a dozen or so of these courses are over $300 - officially they're public but with the economy these days, they're more semi-public. Many more are $200+ and only a handful are around $50.

I've played 7, but when I played Spyglass, it was $200, now it's $350.

Spyglass Hill
Bandon Dunes
Bethpage Black
Pine Barren
Caledonia
Pine Needles
Tobacco Road

They ought to make a top 100 with green fees between $50-$75. Call it the Great Recession 100.

Maybe we can use this site to make one of our own.

8 down, 92 to go......

Funny, Tobacco Road is the only course on that list that I've played. Good luck next weekend. I'm going to Pinehurst tomorrow and I'm playing a course called Woodlake (not on that list!)

I've played Woodlake, pretty nice tract. I'm about 20 miles from Pinehurst, so I try to go play a different course in the area every month.

I took a look at the best AZ courses list and was surprised I have played 10 of the 30 listed. I can say they were great courses, with the exception of Papago which often isn't in the best of shape but is a great layout. The other courses on the list are mostly resort courses and if you expect to play them in temperatures less than 100 degrees be sure to bring your mortgage. You can play most of them for less than $100 in the off season. My opinion is that there are a large number of courses in the state that are very good and enjoyable venues to play for 25%-50% of the cost of the listed courses. So if you're coming here ask the local golfers for advice and you can save a bundle and have fun too.

Definitely. The courses in each individual state list have more reasonable fees. These lists always have pretty much the same courses and feel more like advertising. I wished magazines worked harder at producing my Recession 100 list. Not as many kickbacks for them, but an actual useable list for the masses.

Ive played one of the courses. Its like 10 mins from my house, costs 100 bucks a round though. I just played a scramble tournament there a month ago and part of the scramble deal is that you get another free round anytime you want before the end of august! Its the nicest course Ive ever been on,

i didn't agree with some of these rankings at all, then when i clicked on the PA state list i almost threw up. some of the list they have on there is just garbage...not sure how the rankings are put together but i don't agree on many.

That being said some great golf courses on the list! Princeville was awesome and i think under rated, the Ocean course was a little over rated but still awesome place, glad to see Caladonia on the list MB doesn't get a lot of repect on these rankings it seems.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
