So I was hitting range ball at some range by myself. Suddenly there was this Pro shop staff who are offering Demo clubs approached me. He started with one weird question to start a conversation "Are you alone?" So I answered "Yeah why??" And he just laughed (like he's making fun of me). I decline his offer to try his Macgregor clubs and continued with my session. That was weird since I know macgregror clubs have been discontinued? (correct me if I'm wrong) Is this guy trying to be an @$$hole??

What does it matter if the brand has been discontinued? I'm sure he didn't laugh to make fun of you.

I don't see the problem here. He approached you with an offer, you declined, he left.

It is their job to sell you things, unfortunately his sales technique needs a little refinement. It's better than my range where the pro looks like a homeless guy and constantly tells me he can add 40 yards to all my clubs in just a few lessons.

It sounds odd.

Very odd... This has been the strangest way to offer demo clubs.

It happens. I've been at places where a manufacturer's rep has been there, offering to let you hit their clubs. This was not an official demo day, just a single guy out making the rounds trying to drum up business. To infer he was making fun of you is a funny kind of response. He was probably just trying to be friendly.

MacGregor clubs aren't discontinued.

Correct. They're a Golfsmith brand or something now. Oh, gee:

When you say by myself, did you mean the only one on the range. If thats this case I think he was trying to be ironic. Sounds like something I might say if was a board Pro at a driving range.

By the way your sandtrap membership is no revoked per article 7.

Doesn't he have to send us all a free gift or something to demonstrate sincere remorse? A sleeve of Pentas ought to do it.

I saw nothing odd about the range pro's behaviour. He said something that, in that context, was amusing. He laughed. He offered some MacGregor clubs for a demo. I'd have hit the MacGregors. All his found driving range Pentas are belong to us.

Wierd. My range people never offer up clubs.

The best was a demo day there. 3 companies, taylormade, tour edge & i cannot remember the 3rd. Ping probably. Anyways, tm & other company were offering up their sticks to try & i completely shunned their stuff. Not intentionally but tour edge had so much cool stuff to try.
From the exotics line to the geomax stuff it was like christmas.

New clubs?? I don't think those demo clubs are new. They look pretty ugly too. That's why I decline.

YEs it was a weird experience. It was the first time I had some Driving Range staff offered me a demo. Maybe that guy got bored in the shop and was looking for some "amusement" on the range.

There is a guy who works at the range where I go, and they keep the lights on until 8pm on the weeknights, and he is always trying to get people out early, and I know damn well what their hours are. He will walk by and pick up the ball baskets and say shit like "You got ten minutes" when its like 7:30. That pisses me off. I understand wanting to get off work and go home, but I wouldn't stay past 8 even if I had balls left...

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
