I'm sorry - I have just had it with this childish idiot. I don't care anymore how good his game was at some point. There is so much more to being a professional athlete then execution of your game...and especially pro golfers to me...Jack N, Freddy Couples, Seve B, Tom Watson and on and on and on...all these guys had such class. I want to say this real clear -

I %$#@ing hate who Tiger has become and I wish this foul acting idiot would just go away and stop tarnishing professional golfers in terms of how he acts towards the press etc etc...

I think he is a classlessΒ  A hole.

I agree. I've had it with that douche Alex Miceli too.

That might be a little harsh. Β He was clearly irritated about the book, and clearly irritated with the interview, but it's not like he went Mike Gundy or anything. Β He didn't swear, or yell, or threaten. Β He looked pissed, and then like he was going to cry. Β He's a control freak, particularly about his image and privacy, but that's no secret.

Miceli is a total wanker.

What's up with grilling a golfer in a pre-tournament press conference?Β  Other golfers get such scorchers as "How special would a win here be for you"?

Clearly an attention-getting ploy by Miceli.

I, for one, am not going to read Hank's book, but that's because it has too many words and not enough pictures.

Miceli is a complete spank who doesn't know squat about golf...much like 95% of all the other golf writers. Which is why the only way Miceli can make himself relevant is to do stuff like he did today. By asking questions that have nothing to do with the tournament. Tiger woods was thinking about being a Navy Seal about as much as I was thinking about becoming an astronaut. You can't just decide to become a navy seal. Hank Haney is just as much of an idiot for writing it as Miceli is for wasting time asking about it....just trying to stay in the spotlight.

If Tiger was smart and not so me-centered, he could handle the situation with aplomb.

But he does not have that talent.

Just to be clear...I am NOT commenting on the golf writer asking the questions. Lord knows those guys run the gamut between well informed thoughtful journalists and total douchebags. I am ONLY commenting on the way Tiger handled it.Β  Should Tiger be held to a high(er) standard with these situations...hell yes. Golf like any other sports is full of it's fair share of amazing athletes going through slumps and off years. Was the interviewer veering off into territory he had no place going?? ...maybe. Does Tiger reserve the right to select what he wants to answer? ABSOLUTELY.

Folks, It's the way he went about it I take issue with.

%$#@ him. He doesn't deserve the to be regarded as one of the best players of all time - his re-actions are despicable . Class is worth a lot in my book.

Sandwedge74 is totally wrong about this. Do yourself a favor and don't read his opinion. Tiger did nothing wrong. It was a stupid question for Miceli to ask. Tiger had already commented on the stuff in the book. Tiger had every right to say what he said. Tiger goes about things just fine. Folks, I have a problem with how Sandwedge74 forms his opinions. I respect your opinion Sandwedge74, but it's wrong. Go Tiger!

Miceli asked about 3 times the same questions whereas Tiger already made it clear that he wasn't going to say anything more about the whole Haney-stuff. Miceli's only goal was to get under Tiger's skin, if that is what you call good journalism...

Just read your posts again and tell me what you know about class? And how would you rate yourself in that departement?

Exactly ... did you see Miceli's interview on the Golf Channel last night about it - he was trying to justify his questioning when it was abundantly clear Tiger was not interested in answering anything of the sort.Β Β Β  He was stick poking the bull & I think Tiger's death stare was completely warranted.Β Β Β Β  Tiger kept his cool - I would have lost it on that douche.

I think Tiger handled it ok. He already said he didn't want to talk about the book. Tiger sure has screwed up his life, and now he is paying the price. Leave him alone, and let him play golf. I am not a big Tiger fan. I don't like the way he behaves on the course, but I couldn't care less about what he does off the course.

Here was the exchange, which I got from another website -

Quote:

The press conference at PGA National turned awkward when Alex Miceli, a Golfweek senior writer and contributor to Golf Channel, asked Woods if he considered being a Navy SEAL at the height of his career.

β€œI've already talked about everything in the book. I've already commented on everything, Alex,” Woods said.

β€œThen I must have missed you answering that question,” Miceli replied.

β€œWell, I've already commented on the book. Is that in the book? Is it in the book?” Woods said.

Miceli replied he had not seen the book.

β€œYou're a beauty, you know that?” Woods said, trying to smile.

So...based on that exchange, somehow Tiger comes off as the jerk? Miceli was clearly trying to goad Tiger into going somewhere he didn't want to go, then finally admitting he hadn't read the book.

Good for Tiger. Just because it's a presser doesn't mean he has to politely sit there and endure whatever some douchenozzle wants to ask him. And anyone who has watched Miceli on TGC knows that he is Grade A USDA Prime Douchenozzle.

And ya know what - from here out, if I'm Tiger, I have crossed Miceli off my list of people I will take questions from.

I agree with you. I don't care about how Tiger handles the interviews. He is a golfer not a PR. It's the awful way he behaves on the golf course that irritates me.

He is the role model to a generation of "s***t-smeller faced" golfers.

I just can't stop comparing Greg Norman's behaviour on course in 86 and 87 Masters, 86 US Open, 86 PGA, etc. with Tiger's in the last moths.....

Especially since Miceli said that he had not seen the book. I think they both came out looking stupid and smug, but Tiger could have avoided that by not adding that last comment.

Another Tiger hater just spewing on the guy when he did nothing wrong.Β  As others have said, he made it perfectly clear before the interview that he has nothing more to say about the book and to please not ask questions about it becauseΒ he wasn't going to make any more comments about it.Β  Miceli could have askedΒ an intelligent question like his peers but insteadΒ he goes and asks a stupid question about Tiger wanting to be a Nave SEAL from the book.Β  What does Tigers past desire to be a Navy SEAL have to do with the upcoming tournament?Β  Miceli was trying to bait Tiger into a rant and he didn't bite, end of story.

A book is going to be coming out in a couple weeks about the chronicles of his life and an interviewer is not supposed to talk about it? Lets face it, Tiger woods is not a household name for his golfing anymore, its his controversy why every soccer mom knows his name. Think the average Jane Doe can recall the last hole of the 2008 US Open, or even know who won for that matter?

To begin with, it wasn 't just 'an interviewer' - it was Alex Miceli, a guy Tiger knows. As far as asking Tiger about the book, fine. Ask. He answered. He then pressed him & Tiger asked him if he read the book. When Miceli said no, Tiger gives him a stare & says he's a real beauty.

Someone please explain to me how this is a) even remotely relevant to Tiger playing in the upcoming tournament, and b) how Tiger should have handled it differently. Should he have just patiently kept saying he's already commented on the book over & over? Should he have gone Dr. Phil on us & gone into detail about wanting to become a Navy Seal?

What would make people that are now pissed at him not be pissed? What should he have done?

Look, Haney is trying to make a buck off of info he knows about Tiger based on their time together. Tiger doesn't appreciate that. Would you? And further, if some douchebag (and Alex Miceli is a douchebag) keptΒ asking you in a press conference about it, what would you do?

I have never been a fan of Tiger Woods. Especially since he stated he "Won with his B game" after winning a tournament about ten years back. He does not represent the attributes that I admire. I enjoy golfers like Arnold Palmer, Payne Stewart, Rocco Mediate, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, etc.. For it is these guys that not only represent themselves well, but the game in general. Tiger has never fit into this category for me personally. Point being, I admire character over talent and would rather see my guy finish 10th than Tiger win. It is just a matter of perspective.

However, in light of recent events, I have grown sympathetic to Tiger Woods. The guy has been put on a pedestal for which nobody should be placed. A great golfer, sure. The best golfer ever, perhaps. But he is still just a person and people have flaws and imperfections. Seems each time the world gets a glimpse of Tiger's flaws, they flip out. I would hate to spend one day in his shoes. All these media goobers do is poke here and there hoping to get a newsworthy reaction from Tiger. At some point, all of us would lash out and be fed up with the BS.

I am pulling for the guy for the first time in over a decade. I hope he gets his mojo back and sticks the proverbial middle finger up to all the writers that say he is toast. I want Tiger to be considered a come back story. If so, perhaps my assessment of him and his character in years past was judgement harshly passed. The greatest test of character is overcoming adversity. Think "defining moment" from "Tin Cup". This happens daily on a golf course and that is why I feel character is so vital to playing the game in the first place. I for one would love to see Tiger succeed.

    • So, last night was the first night of golf league. First tee I stuck in the ground this year. First time hitting a ball off the grass. Left my putter on my indoor putting mat in the office so I was able to borrow one of my pal's spare putters. I putted poorly, but not the putters fault. Took me forever to realize the greens were very very slow. We've had tons of rain and the greens were downright furry. I also went from my car to the clubhouse to the first tee. No warm up.Β  It took me a bit to get it going. But finished solid. I think I had four penalty strokes in the first 5 holes.Β
