  1. 1. How do you keep score, score card or app?

    • Scorecard
      22
    • App
      8

I've been using a great score keeping app for quite a while.   It is easy to use, readable in bright sunlight, slips easily in any pocket or a variety of holders, and I haven't had to replace the batteries or recharge it for a long time.     It's called a "pencil".....

A scorecard, that way I can laminate it when I reach a milestone, or achieve a personal best.

I just switched from scorecard to app, but this is an interesting argument in favor of going back to scorecards!

I use Golfshot.  I don't actually pay for the GPS, so there are some scorecard features I don't get access to, but I like using the app cause it keeps track of all the basics really easily for me, like score, putts, fairway % (with left/right %), GIR, saves, penalties, and handicap.  If you're keeping score for four people it takes a little too long to record scores every hole, but if you're only tracking yourself or yourself and one buddy I don't find it takes too long.

The app I use is ScoreCard 2. I easily enter the numbers from the hole onto my app and then can sync it to my computer. I then post the scores to my website. I did this a while ago when it was more in vogue around here to do so and just kept it up. There are a few of us that still do it. See the link in my signature to get a feel for it. When I finish a hole I put in the score, check off if it was in the fairway, left or right, put in a number of how far the first putt was to hole, adjust for number of putts and if I missed the green check off if I could save par or not. It takes 15 seconds at the most and provides great stats.

I've been using Golfshot for a couple months as well.  It's free and easy to keep track of a lot of stats and, literally, takes all of about 10 seconds after each hole to enter everything.

I just played a round with someone who has the GPS portion of the app and it was really cool.  So I bought that for myself as well, but haven't used it yet.

I only use the app for myself, so we're also writing down scores on a scorecard while we play.  I didn't vote because there was no choice for both.

Neither. I have no problem remembering my round. In match play I'll use the scorecard provided.

I switched from the GolfCard app back to the paper scorecard for most of my rounds.

I find it easier to ignore my total score when I have to do the math myself.  I track fairways, greens, approach shot distance, and the distance of each putt.  From that I can get more stats than the typical app tracks, such as made putt % based on distance, how often i hit the green from x yards and how close I am when I do.

I still use the app for GPS, and when I don't feel like tracking all the other stats I sometimes use it for the score.

Easy scorecard. Not real comprehensive but has cool features. I usually keep track of the round in my head and start the app up mid round to enter the score. Seems to work well. I guesssssssss if I need a scorecard for a personal milestone I could fill it out afterward.

App is nice because you have a history of your scores at your finger tips. Gives you something to check out while you are on the can and thesandtrap is boring.

In my head, typically. Though I'll write down stuff on my scorecard for later entry into an app, or sometimes use the app on my phone to enter it in.

I refer a good ol' scorecard.  If I forget to grab one, I'll open an email on my phone and note the score for each hole.  I also like to note what clubs I hit and distances and do that on the card or phone.

Non tournament weeks, my group all uses their own skycaddie / other gps device. Easy for tracking fairways and putts at the end of the hole. Tourneys we still use them as our check marks against the scorecard (filled out by someone else of course.)

Scorecard. We're always playing some kind of game(s) within the group and I tend to keep one card for the scores and another for the game(s).

    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
