The rules are simple:

  • Post every day during the month above. No back-dating or pre-dating posts or practice sessions.
  • Detail what you did for at least five minutes of practice (indoors or out, with or without golf balls, etc.).
  • At the end of the month, everyone who has posted every day will earn a special badge they can proudly display throughout the following month, at which time a new challenge for that month will begin.

Enjoy! And get to work! :-D

I'm in... especially now that I know what to do for practice if I'm without clubs for a day. And especially since the range (properly applied) counts as practice. Does playing count as practice?

I'm in. Still working on back swing issues. Arms keep going back and my elbow is still sliding around. Looking for a decent feel to help me.

I will be going to the range later to incorporate my 5 mins of work on the backswing, focusing on more of a hip turn.

I'm in! As it is already May 1st here, I have started with 5 Min's full swing practice, 8 iron, no ball. Making slow swings, keeping the right knee flexed to A2, then making a centered turn to A4.

Five minutes with the driver before work. I feel as though I'm not getting enough weight forward with it and confirmed when looking in the mirror that I'm not so I worked on what it feels like to get more weight forward this morning.

This will be a fairly redundant post for me:

Worked on A1 to A2 (takeaway) with my new grip to ensure flat wrist at A4 in front of my 'mirror'. From A1 to A2 feeling is 1. a slight body turn + 2. with a slight right wrist hinge. Need both. Tendency to do more of one or the other - i.e., push hook or push slice. Need to stay in the middle.

Mirror checks: At A2 club head low to the ground (ensures body has turned a bit) + entire club including shaft should be still visible (ensures right wrist has also started to hinge). At A4  - ensure no huge cupping and shaft plane pointing slightly above the ball. I follow the club with my eyes in this drill for a few minutes and then repeat the drill for a few mins. by just keeping the eyes on the ball and ensure the positions at A2 and A4 - going with feel alone in moving the club.

Flat wrist at A4 is my overall priority piece. The above drill is actually lot simpler than it may sound to some.

I spent a couple minutes with my head on a towel against the wall working on shoulder turn this morning here at the office while listening to voice mails.  I will be going to the range after work to do some more work before playing tomorrowl

Basically trying to mimic/map the best swing I made with Preston last lesson. Shorten backswing, no hand/arm overrun, shallow shaft, try and point L wrist to sky. Noticed on the range tending to overdo the backswing. Starting to realize what a delicate balance of things that need to happen a swing is. I suspect this will be pretty much rinse and repeat for awhile unless I do short game stuff.

May 1: Mirror work

EDIT:

Duly chastised, I'll add: Main areas of focus were not going way past parallel on the top, getting my hips to rotate instead of sliding into the ball, and not letting my right hand get on top of the club. This new swing involve several new feels and getting them all to click is not always easy.

Try to add more detail to the other 30 days of the month… :D Ditto, @fr0sty .

The rules are simple:

Post every day during the month above. No back-dating or pre-dating posts or practice sessions.

Detail what you did for at least five minutes of practice (indoors or out, with or without golf balls, etc.).

At the end of the month, everyone who has posted every day will earn a special badge they can proudly display throughout the following month, at which time a new challenge for that month will begin.

Enjoy! And get to work!

I played 10 holes, focusing almost entirely on making a good backswing that feels like I turn a lot over my right foot, and then start the downswing with a little hip slide. (It was getting too "pivoty" as I focused on the transition… I was starting to forget to achieve Key #2. It happens.)

5 minutes this morning in front of a mirror - working on rotating my left knee a bit more inward on the backswing to get a centered hip turn.

5 minutes indoors...  Chipping balls into a shoe box about 12 feet away.   Simple move, just want to grove it for consistency....   My chipping has been horrible lately...

    • Day 206 3-11 Focused on wider backswing and reconnecting arm in downswing. Wasn't really happy with how swing was looking today. Wider backswing is very different for me. Went back to do a some longer pauses at the top. Hit a few foam balls.
    • This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score
    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage. • We have a very difficult but mostly showy course this week. Lets see what they got. This course offers so many chances to get into trouble it is really a mental minefield. I am excited to see who can handle it and who cant. Last year we got a foreshadowing of JJ and Rory, I am excited for this year Who do people have winning? what will the winning score be? I am thinking 12 or 13 under
