I've been in the NY area for a long time, and never knew about this course. Wonder what other courses that I might like I've totally missed. There has got to be a better way to find local courses. I thought I knew them all. I suck. Lucked into finding this via Instagram. Score one for social media. Course is right up my alley based on first glance. Nothing fancy, reasonable rates. 9 hole options.

If I know about it, I wouldn't be posting about it here 😉

Plenty of courses around here. I may have heard the names, but I don’t know anything “about” most of them.

There's a course a few towns away from where I grew up called Whitinsville Golf Club. Around a decade ago I saw it on a list of best nine-hole courses in the country. I had no idea it even existed.

Just discovered it. Will play it this weekend.

Another one I just learned about is Middle Bay.

Hopefully the weather cooperates. The Blue course at Timber can get nasty if the winds kick up. Gibraltar!

Thanks. I actually like hitting the ball low.

Also Bergen Point.

Apparently I need to get my head out of my butt.

I play Bergen quite frequently. Right up the road from me. West Sayville is a fun course right up the road from Timber.

El Cariso, in Sylmar, CA. County owned. I've heard the name because OJ played there when he had nowhere else to play, I guess. Found it a couple of years ago. Turned out to be a nice course, will all the water they want, even during the drought.

Navy “Cruiser” GC - Cypress, CA. 9 hole course. Technically it wasn’t off my radar, but the last time I had played there was 20 years ago or more. I just started playing again in 2017 and only recently played there again. It was kind of rough in the “old days”, so I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it is now.

Legacy Golf Course on Lanier Islands

The greens fee includes range ball, soft drinks, and food.  Their "cathead" breakfast biscuit is enormous, and delicious.  The course itself is very nice and well maintained, and it feels like a bargain at twice the price.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
