Missed the cut at the 2022 Farmer’s Insurance Open. Looks like he’s still got a lot of work to do.

I think he tweaked his back on one of his super mega swings yesterday. Seemed like he was spinning out (more than his normal spin out) almost every driver swing after to protect his back. Had to have had some effect.

His left wrist was hurting too.

Hmm. Was watching it on mute so couldn't tell. All I could see was that he put his left hand against his back after a swing and then swung with what seemed like protective moves after.

Maybe he will realize that even pros get a bit out of sequence every now and then and his body can't always support the raging pressure he put on it.

I think Sir Nick kept saying his back, but he kept shaking his wrist in between shots. Both would be troublesome.

He definitely reached for the back on one swing that I saw.

Ok, Buster Douglas 😮

I'm not sure what you mean. .

Buster Douglas was 46-6-1 career. He worked hard, became the world champion. But always hated the 3 boxing ruling bodies. He thought it was a terrible system. He thought the boxers did all the work and everyone else got rich. (Hey, turns out he was right.) After he became champ he refused to work with Don King on a rematch. (Again, can you blame him?)

He went for a huge payday in his next fight vs Evander Holyfield. He got his huge payday and retired. Obviously, he retired even before the fight. He didn't train. Instead he went on talk shows. He appeared on a WWF pay-per-view, which he got well paid for. He gained 15 pounds, all fat. But, he got 25 million bucks for the Holyfield fight, and another reported $20 million for lending his name to the "Punch Out" video game. At that point he said he had generational wealth and didn't want to train anymore. Again, can you blame him?

DeChambeau didn't retire after winning the US Open. If anything he seems to be working harder than ever. So, I'm not sure what the Buster Douglas reference is?

Buster Douglas rose to the very top and then quit. (Again, I don't blame him. If anything, I respect Buster Douglas. Getting hit in the face for a living sucks.)

DeChambeau seems like he's still grinding, trying to catch more lightening in a bottle. He's showing no signs of quitting.

The stat on here that's fascinating to me is that he gained 20 yards off the tee, but his scoring average only went down 0.1 shots.

Before seeing this I would have guessed it would have been more like 0.25 shots.

****** He started bulking and training speed ***********

18-19    1.0             0.4                   0.2                                      0                           0.4             66

SG Total: is better after bulking. Let's drop 16-17 season, and still he is better after bulking.
Of the tee: He is definitively better, his new speed with some accuracy gain him half a stroke of the tee.
Approach to green: He lost 0.1 strokes after bulking.
Around the green: stayed the same.
Green: He is doing it better after bulking. (of course this is work, nothing to do with bulking)

He declared that driving and putting were the best things in his bag and that he spends a lot of time in those two areas.

For me is easy to see that he is improving year after year, and that bulking/speed trainning brougth him benefits and lowered his scores.

What about all the guys with injuries who haven’t/aren’t speed training and bulking up?

IDK Kevin.. what about them? I don't know who they are but hope they are not injuring themselves by over exerting themselves in other ways.

IMO BDC is operating at his physical limits which leaves slim or no margin of swing sequence error. While an injury is not inevitable (I was of course joking about the 'I told you so' posse), chances of injury due to lopsided loading go up.

I am aware that I maybe preaching to the choir with you understanding anatomical dynamics much better than me and open to being wrong.

PGA Tour players get injured all the time, is his point. It's a violent game (within your own body).

    • Not really, no. I don't know the history, what you've worked on, what you've tried and moved away from… etc.
    • Day 9: 2/16/25 Putting through 50 mm gates from 11”. Swing pressure shift drills.
    • Definitely not a favorite… For some reason my wife and I started watching Cobra Kai. I know the original was pretty cheesy, but the inability of these people to get over shit that happened like 30 years ago is astounding. And these kids would be arrested, but they don’t even seem to get suspended from school. Would Danny not notice that Johnny’s son looks like Johnny? Etc.? Why would a completely different dojo that has the same name be “banned”? Oy. Not sure we’ll make it to season 2.
    • Day 139 - 2025-02-16 Weather led to a rescheduled GEARS lesson, so I used the time to work on my swing for 60 minutes or so. All downswing stuff. Some swings at 93 MPH. Most around 75-80.
    • A question I have is…this swing (fade, pull cut) does not  feel as good and easily repeatable as the draw swing we were working on previously.  I’m kinda in a weird spot where I do not know which direction will be the best to pursue. I like seeing a penetrating 5 yard draw but also like the thought of the fade not getting away from me as much.    Any thoughts on that?
