Would You Rather #67:
Would you rather play a golf course in which every hole is a par-3. You never get to tee off with anything longer than your 6 iron?
or
Would you rather play a golf course in which every hole is a long par-5 where it is outside your range to ever reach the green in two?

The former. The latter sounds like an awful lot of not particularly interesting shots to me. The par 3 course could be something like the new par 3 course at Bandon - I'd love to play that.

The first. It's just a par three course. And those are often fun.

Par 3. Decidedly more fun than what sounds like a long/boring day (par 5). Of the ones I've played, the Sandbox (17 par 3 holes) was a hoot. Plus who wouldn't want quadrupled odds of a hole-in-one as a bonus..😊

I generally like par-3 courses and find it a darn shame that the last of them closed in my area during the pandemic.

Part of it may have to do with the fact that I never have been very good with the longer clubs, so the short holes are a bit more my speed.  Being able to get in 18 holes in two hours was pretty convenient and, ironically, the lack of crowds made them peaceful places to be. Naturally, that's the same reason they no longer exist around here.

The second option sounds like a whole lot of no fun.

I'm 22 days and 6 hours away from playing the Cradle.  Therefore I'm going with the Par 3 course!

#2, Golf would get really boring if you only play Par 3's. Par 5s let you have a lot more strategy and design to play with.
Also.. as a short hitter I'm normally laying up on the 2nd shot.

At first glance - option 1 mainly because I’ve never played a dedicated par 3 and 18 holes of par 5’s, well l’m pretty sure  I would be exhausted from playing that length.  I have rarely made the green in two on a five, so not getting there in two is not a sore spot. At second glance, it’s still a par 3 with 6i max.

It's a one time thing I think - not something you're saying you're going to play exclusively forever...

Would You Rather #68:
Would you rather make a hole-in-one on a perfectly struck shot, during a round where you otherwise played pretty poorly.

or

Would you rather play well all day and beat your personal best by let's say 3 strokes, but with no eagles.

BTW - You could answer that it may depend upon who you are playing with? ... Or if its in a tournament? ... Or any other conditions you want to apply to the question.

Hole in one is a lifetime achievement, so that.

I've got two of them.

So for me it depends. If I'm playing with friends and they know me. I'm taking the hole-in-one. Because they know my game anyway. Let's go for the awesome moment/bragging rights.
If I'm in a tournament I'm taking the low round, because I want to win.

If I'm playing with a bunch of strangers, and I just show up, and get paired up. I'm leaning toward taking the low round. I could leave them thinking I'm better than I am. Plus for me that would be a 73. ... That would be cool.

I'd take option 2.   Although option 1 is always exciting, and rewarding. playing well all day is very exciting because I can also do the opposite.

Hole in one is nice, but those low rounds stick in my memory better. I have two holes in one (and a third on a pitch and putt course which I count as a half). I've shot in the 60s three times in the last 10 years or so and I remember each one pretty well. I'd take the low round.

Option #2 because I'd add the condition that it's in a tournament. Because that'd mean I'd break par in a tournament. And I already have a hole in one.

Option one. Would like an ace even if it’s a worm burner. Have witnessed a couple of aces so would like to be on the other end.

#1. I rather lower my score by 3 instead of making an eagle... but a hole in one is a hole in one and I'm still didn't make one.

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there.
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
    • Day 12 - 2025-12-31 Limited time today, and heavy rains here. 5-10 minutes of mirror work for full swing, working on trail side.
