I can do 4 days max. I am assuming it won't affect anyone else's plans.

Personally I'm leaning towards these options, but am open to what everyone else wants.  We probably want to try this during the week if were booking SV tee times 30 days out.

I am thinking we start golfing maybe on Monday the 19th or Tuesday the 20th.  Again, I am very open to discussion on all of this.

1. Mammoth or SV and the Sand Box $290

2. Mammoth or SV and the Sand Box $290

3. Mammoth or SV and the Sand Box $290

4. Sentry World ($155) or Mammoth or SV and the Sand Box ($290)

5. Lawsonia ($120) or Erin Hills($320) - If you would be doing this on the way out it would be recommended to maybe fly out of Milwaukee.

So, costs:

The 4 days of golf with Sentry world would be roughly $1025 for the golf.

All 4 days all at SV would be $1160

5 days with Lawsonia $1145.

5 days with Erin hills or Whistling to something else you would want to do...have fun and good on you for having limitless income. A word of advice for Whistling and Erin, Whistling requires a caddy i believe, so your probably looking at ($750) and Erin has so many blind shots that you likely need one.

If someone wants to just golf the first three days, that is an option too.  @Slim_Pivot I apologize I was a bit low maybe on my initial calculations.  I was originally thinking of 3-4 days instead of 4-5 days. I am all for as much golf as possible though.

Thanks, @cipher, this looks like you've already spent weeks planning.  I'm certainly good for the first four days, no matter how the final selection of courses works out.  I'll probably be happy to play Lawsonia Links on the way out if I have company for that.  Thanks again to both you and @iacas for everything you're doing.

That won't be an issue.  The biggest issue I think would just be basically booking and making sure we have 8 for the Sand Valley days.  As soon as I book it, they will run my CC for all players as well. That is what they required this the this year.  But that will be a month out from actual play.

Well I am stuck at home right now with nothing better to do than think about a mid summer trip back out there.

Well as long as it is your cc I am good with it. 😜

I am happy for any of this. I would lean towards Sand Valley on 3 days as opposed to all 4. I'm sure I'll love SV, but I also like to experience more than just those 2 courses on the trip. A thought if we do 3 days at SV: maybe we make a foursome at each course, so that people can play their favorite of the two again. That may not work out perfectly in the end, but it's an idea.

Question for you, though, Nate. Is it snowing where you are right now? I tend to get the golf bug and try to plan something like this when there's snow falling or on the ground. 🙂

I like that idea about the 3rd day.  I would be good playing either course the third day.  I wish they had the third course built, that would make this easier.  Someone else is also going to build one across the street I guess.

No snow here yet, but it should come soon. It usually doesn't stick until mid to late November.  I'll be over in the Winter Depression thread when it does.

This is what I would prefer at this point. If we start on Monday that gets us all the courses at weekday rates (though Lawsonia on a Friday might be weekend rates, but it's also relatively inexpensive).

I'm liking that about the third day too. And the thing is, we'll know which course might be "better" or preferred, and if it's like 6-2, we can just get eight times on that course again. I haven't really started looking at it enough to know if one or the other is something I'd likely prefer more.

Yeah I think that is a good plan.  I can also book Lawsonia tee times way in advance it looks like.

I probably won't mind either way myself.

The big difference for everyone wondering is concave vs convex.  For SV the land slopes away from the fairway center in many places, and Mammoth the land slope towards the fairway centers.

Also, The Sandbox(note that one of the holes it just a putt)

Here are the yardages for the sand box.  Might be fun to do some sort of challenge here @iacas.  I'll probably only take my 9i, GW, SW, and a putter.

Move me to virtually certain. The wife has a Dallas trip in late July-early August so I’m good to go. And I’m pretty open for whatever days everyone agrees on. I’ll just need to know confirmed dates by the end of the year so I can take vacation.

Also, for anyone around my area that is driving and wants to carpool, hit me up. It’s a good drive but if I have to do it alone, I’ll likely fly which means the push cart will stay home.

I can do the 4 days of the trip.

I wont be able to do any days on the way out if that makes sense.

I'll fail spectacularly to be clear about this… we're probably going to need to have a drawing or something if we end up with more than 8 "virtually certain" people, which we almost certainly will. I'm uncomfortable with who goes being a matter of who can say "dibs" first only. So, let's keep adding names to the "first" list even if it exceeds 8, and @cipher and I will figure out what to do later on.

So… I'm changing up the wording a little bit.

Committed to be considered:

Lol it’s no big deal to me. I like golf trips and I get to go on my fair share.

Leave me out if you have too many ppl, count me in if you need me

Just let me know by Feb so I can put in for the vacation days or not

We will let you know by that time. Thank you for being down for coming, it would be great to have you there.

I think this is a great plan @iacas, I am sure we can figure it all out.

You're in.

We might expand the list to 12, with a drawing or a pick (it's Nate's house after all) and the other four could get cheap hotels minutes away, but just use them to sleep while still visiting/hanging out at the lake house.

I actually don't expect we'll be at the lake house recreating much. Is that the word for doing recreational activities? Anyway, given the 80-minute drive, I think we'll wake up, go, play, return, sleep.

I'm in this category as well. We take golf trips pretty frequently and I'd be taking away from my Christmas vacation time to go on this one, but I am good either way. I'll give it some time to see how many end up being interested and I'll drop out for someone that never takes trips but still want to stay in my position on the list as of today.

    • Im not actually trying to apply those changes..but bumping my hip forward for all full swings makes it hard to feel correct in not bumping it or moving it back for the chip.  It's like I then have a hard time feeling 55 percent of my weight on my front foot.. I'll obviously get it corrected I just didn't expect my chipping setup to feel so alien so quickly.
    • Reading your comments I ask myself if you have played competitive sports in any fashion. If it bothers you enough you either need thicker skin, or maybe stop playing in tournaments. Of all the things in the world golf is the least effected by outside influences. Its you, your ball, your swing, your thoughts that determine the score on the card. Shake it off the guy might just be a jerk but what he is doing isnt against the rules.  As others have said, If you want a confidence boost, when he says something about hitting over a lake or whatever, you nut the shot and hit it how you envisioned. Thats enough of a statement right there. If you let him get in your head he wont stop. If you keep playing good golf and dont react mentally or physically to what he is saying it will get old and he will stop.
    • I bought that same cart last year from Costco for $1500. I like that I can control it from 20-30yds away so it can get to my ball before I do, or it can start moving to the next hole while I am getting off the green. What I didn’t like is if I want to walk under the umbrella - I cannot find the right speed. It’s either too slow or too fast for my pace to walk alongside it. I also think the uphill balancing wheel is too small and if I forgot to extend it, the cart will tip over since my course is at the foothills and there are lots of slopes to climb. A few weeks after buying it, the price went down to $1200. Costco was nice enough to give me the difference eventhough they didn’t have to. I have only used it for a few months - I ended up getting a golf cart because I didn’t want to walk anymore. Then a few months later I joined a different club that included carts in my membership, so I now have an electric push cart and a golf cart sitting in my garage collecting dust...
    • My mother's son remembers polio.  😉 I remember the scare, and a friend of mine wearing those metal leg braces.  He turned out OK, and I played basketball against him in high school. We didn't have "vents", but we had "Iron Lungs." In 1952, the number of polio cases in the U.S. peaked at 57,879, resulting in 3,145 deaths.   The deadly polio epidemic and why it matters for coronavirus Polio was nearly eradicated with the Salk vaccine in 1955. At the time, little was known about this mysterious disease that paralyzed and sometimes killed young children.   Actually 1 American died every 33 seconds yesterday. https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/02/health/us-coronavirus-wednesday/index.html
    • this is first few lines of my 2020 goals; can't seem to do it properly (I didn't see any little plus sign but I did copy and paste)  My goals are to improve score through more time on the course.  I hope to play more and different local courses, and this will mean either solo or pick up some partners from the past.  I've been trying to hook up with these good ole friends from last century and only been able to a couple times. 2020 goals were to spend more time on the course.  I feel that will bring down my score avg and increase enjoyment.  My playing partner (that brought me back to the game) cannot play as much as I need so I started playing at least one round a week by myself to get on-course practice.  After a while, that gets a little old but still good for my game; I might hit a shot twice, mostly second shots.  I also finally hooked up with golf buddies from way past and now play on several of the really nice courses with old friends. This added time on course has improved my scores (and additionally added new specialized type clubs).  But last week, I was brought back down to earth as I actually could not finish a round (thru 12) due to my back problems returning; I had been getting 'uncomfortable' for a little while but denied the golf connection.  So I have been resting the last 2 weeks and now am pain-free again which tells me it's not the light work I have taken up but the golf.   Seems I may have to be satisfied with certain limitations and re-set some goals but I'm not quitting; it has been such a pleasure getting out on a golf course like I do.  I really appreciate it nowaday and enjoy the whole picture.  My home course is in very much isolation from the world and sometime, I never cross another group, no houses, total quiet... (so different from some of the stories I've seen here) I am still searching for a new used set of irons - with graphite shafts and other changes in club set-up designed to keep us ole farts in the game.  Arthritis is a b*tch.
