Great photos of how stylish one of these hats can be!

Check out this guy. He's incredibly handsome in his bucket style hat. IMG_3363.thumb.JPG.d16475249d20e6c6093e838acf8da150.JPG

Who is that guy? Looks like a Chicago Public School Graduate.

In all seriousness, my father in law has suffered from Skin Cancer for 20 years now. Therefore, my wife makes sure I have plenty of sunblock and a nice stock of UA Cool-Black Bucket hats (I have 3 of them. Black, Blue, and Grey) Oddly, they are always called cool black even when they are a different color. I like the bucket hats when I don't feel like globing the sunblock on my ears and neck.

*Trivia* The most common location for recreational golfers to get skin cancer... = The Calves. ... not the ones that play in Cleveland.

I'm a fan of the bucket hat. The UA model is comfy and doesn't blow off in the wind.

Mostly, I don't really care what anyone else wears.  The only one that offends my very tolerant fashion tastes is the super-wide brim hat. There is a certain proportionality failure to it that I can't stand. You don't see them very often, but I know a guy.

I agree, that is going a bit too far. It is a very difficult thing to find a 'sun hat' that still keeps one feeling like it's an accepted style. I would imagine if the PGA players started wearing sun hats that it would filter down to the rest of the golf world. Thing is, when you are that young, as most PGA players are, you are more tolerant of the sun and don't concern yourself with the skin cancer issue as much. Usually, skin cancer comes along in older folks.

I've always worn a baseball hat.   This past week a local teacher died of melanoma cancer.   I'm going to take sun protection more careful.

Good point.

Ancient old dudes like me really don't care too much about their style points. Thus the bucket hat.

What about this guy?

I had that hat, but I got it to wear at Jimmy Buffett concerts. Fins Up!

GN looks good in that hat, I probably wouldn't though. Just wearing a bucket hat while playing golf really was helpful in keeping the sun out of my eyes that normally sneaks in from the side.

I usually get a new cheap straw hat every spring, but this year I am thinking of an Aussie Chiller.

That's a neat looking hat, but a couple things come to mind. First, that Nike logo looks super-imposed, maybe it isn't. Two, sure, that will keep the sun out of your eyes, but what about the sensitive parts of your face like ears, cheeks, neck, etc? Often times skin cancer is not really a consideration until someone gets it. It's sort of like the idea that "it will never happen to me".

Wide-brimmed hat from my university bookstore (purchased almost two years ago now).  Sometimes I'll wear other forms of wide-brimmed hats but my default is one with my undergrad alma mater logo and colors.  I also have a similar, slightly smaller brim light blue one that I quite like and a black one with my club logo on it.  I also have one with my former employer's logo and such on it, but I do not plan to wear that one again any time soon (keeping it for sentimental reasons).

Every round I've ever had under 80 was completed while wearing the first-mentioned hat.

    • The family went to a Chili Cook-off this past weekend. I realized something.  Every Chili Cook-off I've ever been to somebody brings a white chili.  That person never wins.  White Chili is fine. But if you are making it for a chili cook-off are you actually just conceding?
    • Well said.  Er, um... Well typed... 🤷‍♂️ This is what I suspect as well. I also didn't think about your point about impulse buys and the current hoopla. There are definitely a lot of folks talking about these right now. "The revealer" whether it actually proves anything or not, is clearly a great sales technique. I hear even hear the old folks at the range (am I one of those now?) talking about these. Words to the effect of "I really need to get a lie angle balance putter..." etc...
    • I'm probably preaching to the choir with your background, but I'm sure most retailers worth their business salt will price it for some combination  of: delivered cost + current perceived market value + expected lower revenue for slow moving inventory + expected obsolescence. The 'market value' might be the largest component.  Retailers with low inventory build to order for long lead times have lower obsolescence recover cost added but it really hurts the impulsive buyer market, which is big when there is all this hoopla raging. The impulsive buyer also tends to pay more. I'm guessing that LAB wont make you wait unless you want custom tweaked stuff.
    • Fair points - one thing I would note, speaking as a consumer, the base model here is already very expensive. There is a (fairly large) part of me that is much more willing to pay additional customization costs if it's going to work better when the underlying product is expensive. If I'm getting a $10 putter out of a bargain bin, I'm comfortable giving it a try and if it doesn't work, then whatever - no big deal. Spend $450 plus tax and it better be good. I'd rather have something for 560 that's spot on rather than something that's 450 and not what I need. I'd also go the extra mile and pick out some of the visual customization as well - different color, different alignment lines etc. I don't necessarily see that $110 as poor value when it's already a high end and expensive piece of equipment. I don't know whether that's me being what the market will bear or that it costs them that much more to make it, but I don't particularly care either way. At the end of the day it really is just about what the market (i.e. me) will bear.  I will also note that I don't have a LAB putter and while I am periodically tempted, I'm not going to get one until I can be sure I'm getting the one that's right for me. Short of going to Oregon, I'm not sure how that can happen either, so I will remain a spectator who occasionally pops to PGA Superstore to have a play around with one.
    • One thing I've wondered about with set to the side camera models in addition to toe shanks; Is does the plexiglass covering the cameras get all dirty? Especially when hitting from grass. I've used skytrak with a mat before and it ends up getting what I'll call "mat dust" on it. But that easily wipes right off. I've never used one of these in the grass. But I would think they'd get "grass splatter" on them. ... maybe? is that an issue?
