What's up with this craziness???

Quote

The tee box on the seventh hole could be home to long waits. And players dodging incoming missiles from the sixth tee. The sixth green and seventh tee box are so close that one could literally putt a ball off the sixth green to the seventh tee box without making a shoulder turn.

“It’ll be interesting with a back left pin on 6, in case somebody just tugs it,” said four-time major winner and two-time PGA champion Brooks Koepka. “We’re right in the firing zone. It is what it is. I can’t do anything about it.

“It’s the way the golf course is set up.”

Don’t know if they have done this before, but pgatour.com is giving updates hole-by-hole on Tiger:

TigerWoods-1694-KeyurKhamar.jpg

Tiger Woods defied reasonable expectations once again by competing 72 holes at last...

Sorry, I was not clear in my post.

US PGA :

Bryson DeChambeau - withdrawn (struggling with his Left wrist).

Brooks Koepka - 33/1

British Open - St Andrews :

Bryson DeChambeau - 22/1

Brooks Koepka - 16/1

However, trusting Bryson's left wrist is recovered, I'm backing Bryson to win at St Andrews.  His game is made for St Andrews.  With the Driver, he is as close a replica to Jack Nicklaus as any current professional.  Jack Nicklaus overpowered St Andrews twice - 1970 and 1978.  Bryson DeChambeau is probably better with the driver, than even 'The Bear.'

Also, John Daly over powered St Andrews to win in 1995.

A fit Bryson DeChambeau should win at St Andrews 2022.

That makes more sense.

In fact, John Daly is currently leading the tournament at 2 under, with birdies on 1 and 5 and pars on the other holes, having played 6.  Admittedly very early in the day with many not even having teed off, but should make for an interesting round.  I don't think Daly can sustain this play over 72 holes, but who knows.

What's in the bag

  • Taylor Made r5 dual Draw 9.5* (stiff)
  • Taylor Made Rescue 2H (stiff)
  • Cobra Baffler 4H (stiff)
  • Taylor Made RAC OS 6-9,P,S (regular)
  • Golden Bear LD5.0 60* (regular)
  • Aidia Z-009 Putter
  • Inesis Soft 500 golf ball

Daly at -2 after 6 holes. He still has a lot of speed in him, started the day by splitting the fairway at #1 with a 344 yard-drive.

Can't see how he can keep this up, but impressive start still.

In the bag: Callaway Mavrik SZ 10,5 driver (X stiff), Cobra King 4 wood (Stiff, 2006 model), Callaway Mavrik irons 4 - P+A (stiff), Cobra King Pur wedges 52, 56 and 60 (stiff) and Odessey white steel putter.  Very happy with the set and the gapping.

If you are in any of these countries, it looks like you can stream it free. I wonder that it's officially stated like this is a wink wink to the more tech minded.

Spoiler

I set my VPN's location to India and am able to stream, the announcers are not ESPN+. If you search ESPN and PGA on Twitter, the comments are generally negative.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Rory win a major again. It’s been eight years since his last.

Yes, Rory fancies his chances at 'The British - St Andrews.'  He will have the US PGA as well, thank you very much!  Great round today.  Of course it is just the Masters he needs for the 'Grand Slam.'  He will win at Augusta at some point.  Did well there in 2022.  Very powerful chap with probably the best swing currently on the USPGA Tour.

Anyone know how much practice round tickets cost this year? Just curious. The cheapest no frills ticket.

Pity about Bryson withdrawing.  Hopefully he will be ready for US Open 16 - 19 June and British Open 14 - 17 July.  St Andrews will be a good fit for his game.  The English golf fans are keen to see Bryson.  22/1 with British bookmakers to win the St Andrews Open.

Brooks Koepka, playing with Lowry and Scott, is 33/1 in UK to win the US PGA.  Could he do well?

The first time in a long time that Rory has gotten off to a good start in a major.  7 birdies and 2 bogeys to lead a major.  He has mostly done well on days 3 and 4 when he has been far behind.  His mindset seems to have improved and consistency is there in all facets of the game.  Looking forward to him increasing his major count

Lots of announcer speak about the type of sand in the bunkers and how the pros were "struggling" with it. That sand looked good to me but then I'm used to sand, this year, that's so wet it's more like clay.

Sorry that Tiger's in pain but I guess I'm not too surprised. I think he's damn lucky to be on a course at all.

    • Played again this morning to try and get out before a lot of people came (no tee times required at the Methodist course). And honestly, not much to say about the round. I can pretty much summarize today’s round by saying this: I had a rough start and couldn’t get anything going. Parred 10 and 11 to start the back nine, but a three-putt for bogey on 12 ruined my momentum. The final numbers were 47-44 for a 91. Not great. I also have a required PAT in two weeks at that course (more about that in my blog post today), so I’ve gotta get working.
    • Day 28: 8/13/2022 Worked on my priority pieces today with a 7 iron. It was all block practice. However, I only focused on one thing at a time. Working hard to try to get a movement engrained into my swing. No random practice today.
    • Just curious, why did you bring this thread back to life?
    • I have a golfing friend whose entire body is pretty beat up from multiple injuries.  Hits down on the ball a lot.  He's close to a scratch player.  A true range rat.  He finds 4 pine cones to put in a rectangle under the mat aligning with his hitting area.
    • Thanks for all the good ideas. I’m current practicing on a new Top Tracer range at our course. The mat does seem softer than many I have used at regular driving ranges. But still you can tell if you hit it really fat. It hurts. The data it gives for each shot isn’t very informative. It shows carry, total distance, height and how much it curves. I think we can tell most of that without the feedback.
