That’s probably a good way of looking at it. It just reached a point where it was too much.

@boogielicious I get what you are saying, my follow up question would be why this particular issue? Shouldn’t they have stopped these types of things sooner? Is it possible this particular issues is more magnified due to the players involved? I am not taking a stance for or against. I am just curious as to why now. I don’t agree with the comment you made about the tour looking bad due to this feud.  To me that is not their concern. That is the players to figure out.

I think it may have been the feud that did it. All the other examples, Jack, Sergio, Tiger, Monty, we’re just the fans and not fueled by other players, Arnie didn’t goad fans into disliking Jack for example. The feud and resulting taunting reflects poorly on the PGA Tour now.

I just think the whole thing, in the big picture of it, is ridiculous. A grown man is getting some ribbing and it’s coddle time for the distressed millionaire golfer. No physical harm, no racist or vulgar comments. BD apparently can’t control his emotions so every effort has to be made to make sure he feels comfortable out there.

On the face of it that would make some sense. If it were going to stop there. But it wouldn't. And it wouldn't stop at Bryson. It would simply keep escalating as long as there are fans and alcohol. Eventually, either a player or a fan would get hurt. I'm all for the fans cheering when a player makes a good shot or "ooohing" when one misses but, when they start directing abuse at a player I think it's time to step in and I hope they actually enforce it. Time will tell.

I agree with this. It would help if I were more aware of what abuse was happening. I just saw BD say he liked the fans yelling, and that people were calling out ‘Brooksie’ to him. Now if BD finally got tired of it then he should’ve gone to Brooks and made a truce. Then address whomever and say you want this to end. He and Brooks should do it together and ask that the taunting stop.

🤦‍♂️

It's beyond Brooks at this point.

And it's beyond Bryson at this point. The policy is for all players.

I think if Brooks and BD made a press appearance and said something like, ‘ look guys…we let this get out of hand and the heckling/harassing needs to stop. We’re gonna stop it and we’re asking fans to stop it too.’ I think this might help stop the behavior out there.

Maybe. Beside the point, though: it's not just for idiots yelling "Brooksie!" at Bryson.

It would not surprise me if the commissioner also had concerns that a player might go after a fan or day if the heckling continued to be allowed, ala “Malice In The Palace”.

Personally I am tired of the jerks yelling after every shot. Their real goal is to hear themselves on TV. They don’t care about the player, or probably even golf.

Back to Bryson though.  He's being coddled by the PGA Tour.  Plain and simple.  No he's not being "bullied".  Is he being heckled?  You bet.  But as Patrick Cantlay said, he's brought this on himself.

I do not care if it is called "Bullied" or "Heckled".  One of the things I have always believed is "You do not kick a man when he is down" and at the BMW the "Fan" clearly was kicking BD when he was down.  I do not care if BD is rich or not, that does not matter.  At the BMW BD had just lost a 6 hole playoff and I suspect any competitor would be dejected and emotionally drained after the loss.  To "Heckle, "Ridicule" or "Bully" (again I do not care what it is called) him was just simply mean.  This new rule is an attempt to rein in a loss of decorum that began long ago and has become more pronounced and will only get worse if not stopped now.  BD is the catalyst to act now but that does not mean he is being coddled.  This is not just about BD, it is about all golfers including those who are not yet on the tour.  If not stopped now it may get worse and worse over time and before we know it we are having fans fight each other behind the ropes just like happens in the stands at some football matches.  I for one do not want our sport to devolve to that point.  Even though I believe the rule will be hard to enforce I do support it and support the goal of the rule.

"nasty" "hate" "ugly" "abusive"

But hey, sticks and stones, right @Vinsk? He should be able to tolerate it, eh? 😛

Many can, and have. But they’re kinda speaking for others. ‘ I hate you’? He doesn’t know that’s what they’re feeling or saying by calling him Brooksie. Maybe they’re just bigger fans of Brooks than Bryson…what a crime huh? 😏

Dude.

He's there, experiencing this.

But you keep on. Disappointing.

So what? He doesn’t know if people hate Bryson. You guys seem to want this to be such a devastating lynch mob scene with death threats and violent hatred. Some people have taunted the guy who not long ago said it didn’t bother him. I get it. You guys have never seen such awful and disgusting behavior in sports. I’m sorry you’re all so upset over this life changing event for Bryson.
Imagine if Bryson just laughed it off, Brooks calls a truce and the whole thing just died.
I’m not encouraging what these idiots have done. I’m just saying it’s not so impossible to handle this as a grown man better than he has, both of them.

Hey, man, you're the one acting as if you know they don't. That it's all harmless and in good fun. That Bryson should be able to "deal with it" because you can deal with an anti-vaxxer. You're not reading and giving any weight to the accounts of the people on the ground, because by and large they're all coming back and saying the same things and using similar words: "hate" and "nasty" and "uncomfortable" and so on.

Like I said: disappointing.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
